Software Engineer, Stripe Data Pipeline

Role Overview & Scale

Stripe processes hundreds of billions of dollars each year for millions of businesses worldwide. The Stripe Data Pipeline team engineers the distributed data streaming and storage backbone that ingests, cleanses, and transforms trillions of financial events with zero data loss and exact-once delivery semantics.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and scale distributed streaming platforms using Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and Apache Iceberg.
• Design schema evolution protocols and validation contracts that protect downstream analytics and machine learning pipelines.
• Partner with security and compliance teams to enforce automated GDPR/CCPA data governance and field-level encryption at rest.
• Optimize distributed compute clusters to reduce cloud operational costs while meeting strict sub-second streaming latency SLAs.

Qualifications & Experience

• 4+ years of backend or data platform engineering experience building high-throughput distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, Go, or Python with deep knowledge of concurrent programming and distributed consensus.
• Experience operating streaming technologies (Kafka, Pulsar, Flink) and columnar storage formats (Parquet, Iceberg) at petabyte scale.
• Strong debugging skills across Linux networks, disk I/O, and JVM memory allocation profiles.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $215,000 – $325,000 per year + Stripe Equity (RSUs).
