About Jane Street
Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm with a unique focus on technology and collaborative problem solving. We trade in hundreds of thousands of financial instruments across thousands of markets around the world, relying on innovative mathematical techniques, proprietary algorithms, and functional programming in OCaml.
Role Overview
We are seeking an intellectually curious Quantitative Researcher to join our New York trading desk. You will explore massive historical tick datasets, identify predictive signals, and formulate mathematical models that capture market dynamics and liquidity across global equities, options, and fixed income markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate, backtest, and deploy predictive statistical models to trade financial securities systematically.
- Analyze order book dynamics, quote revisions, and execution slippage using empirical data science methods.
- Write clean, expressive, and rigorous production trading code in OCaml and scientific analysis scripts in Python.
- Collaborate directly with traders and software engineers in a tight-knit, flat hierarchy where good ideas win regardless of seniority.
- Continuously monitor strategy performance, market regimes, and risk parameters in live trading environments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
- Deep understanding of statistical inference, probability theory, linear algebra, and time-series analysis.
- Proficiency with functional or object-oriented programming (OCaml, Python, C++, or Haskell).
- A pragmatic, hypothesis-driven approach to empirical research with healthy skepticism toward overfitting.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $250,000 – $400,000 + substantial discretionary performance bonus based on desk profitability.
- 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
- Full-service on-site culinary staff providing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and artisan coffee daily.
- 401(k) matching program, generous parental leave, and continuing academic education sponsorship.
