The Specialist, Business Development supports the APAC Corporate Practices, including M&A and Restructuring, working with around 30 partners across the region. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality research, analysis, and process support across core business development activities, including pitches and proposals, market and client research, and the effective operation of BD processes and systems.
In this role you will apply knowledge of BD methodologies, tools and best practices to execute initiatives at a tactical level, ensuring outputs are accurate, insightful, timely and aligned with firm standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Research and qualify new business opportunities using market and client data
Prepare background materials to support BD initiatives and client cultivation strategies
Map client relationships, track engagement and provide insight to inform targeting and account plans
Support development of pitches, proposals and capability materials aligned with client needs and firm priorities
Maintain and update pitch content, including deal lists, lawyer bios and case studies, ensuring consistency and quality
Research industry trends, client issues and competitor activity to support thought leadership and market positioning
Assist with development and distribution of rankings, awards and directory submissions to raise practice and partner profiles
Support planning and execution of external events and related campaigns to enhance market visibility
Collect, analyze and report BD data to support cross-practice initiatives and process improvements
Provide BD process, tools and domain expertise, including informal guidance and mentoring of junior team members
Analyze BD activities, track KPIs and identify opportunities to improve BD processes, effectiveness and impact
Experience and skills required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with specialist expertise in core BD disciplines such as research, pitching, market analysis, CRM and reporting
Native Japanese language skills and English fluency
Strong analytical, problem-solving and research skills, with high attention to detail and ability to develop practical solutions within defined scope
Solid understanding of how BD supports practice and firm objectives and how BD collaborates with other business services functions
Clear, effective communication and collaboration skills for working with BD colleagues and sharing accurate information with stakeholders
Strong workload management skills, with ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and perform in a fast-paced, team-based environment
