MUFG's Leveraged Finance group provides product expertise in the origination, structuring and execution of LBOs for private equity sponsors.
The Leveraged Finance group also works closely with relevant coverage and product functions across the bank to assist in executing our broader Financial Institutions strategy to maximise cross-sell amongst private equity sponsor clients and their portfolio companies.
Leveraged Finance works collaboratively with MUFG’s Global Sponsor Coverage teams, Mid Market Direct Lending team and the Leveraged Capital Markets team to deliver financing solutions and to maximise revenue opportunities in the DACH region.
This role is for an Associate within the Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management team, which is responsible for the monitoring and management of the leveraged loan exposures originated by Leveraged Finance and Mid Market Direct Lending and also for analysing and monitoring Securitised Products and Supply Chain Finance solutions provided to the portfolio companies of Private Equity Sponsor clients.
Main purpose of the role:
- Ongoing monitoring and management of a portfolio of non-investment grade, financial sponsor-backed financings originated by Leveraged Finance, Mid Market Direct Lending and Securitised Products and Supply Chain Finance
- To conduct portfolio analysis and reporting for internal purposes and to ensure portfolio adherence to internal and external procedures and requirements (e.g. compliance, KYC, internal audit)
- To identify and execute refinancing and cross-sell opportunities with portfolio borrowers in conjunction with LF Origination, Mid Market Direct Lending, PE Sponsor Coverage, Capital Markets, Corporate Relationship Managers and other relevant internal counterparties
- Supporting the wider LF team with onboarding and other operational matters
The role includes the following responsibilities:
- Monitoring the credit quality of a portfolio of assets through management information and internal and external research sources to ensure covenant compliance and early identification of performance variances to budget and base case
- Managing the development of relevant credit analysis including sensitivity scenarios and key ratios analysis (including where appropriate credit rating agencies'), and for making informed judgements on financial viability and liquidity to advise decision making at senior management level
- Proactively developing, recommending and executing actions relevant to effective LF portfolio risk management, including partial / full asset disposals and portfolio top-ups
- Undertaking the timely preparation of high quality borrower credit reviews, monitoring analysis, waiver / consent requests and secondary trading proposals for submission to ECRO, and other internal processes as appropriate
- Responsible for data integrity and, in partnership with the CAD team, for the preparation of internal portfolio reporting and analysis including materials for the Corporate Credit Review Meeting
- Supporting Securitised Products and Supply Chain Finance in reviewing potential opportunities, in conducting the credit approval process for potential onboardings and thereafter in monitoring these assets on an ongoing basis as part of LF Portfolio Management duties
- Working with relevant internal counterparties to mine the existing portfolio to identify refinancing and cross-sell opportunities
- Responsible for supporting all aspects of deal execution as may be required during the development and execution of a mandate for existing portfolio borrowers
- Building relationships throughout MUFG to establish a peer network, gathering relevant information and helping to ensure effective inter-departmental collaboration
- Building relationships at the appropriate business levels to create and maintain trust with corporate clients and partner banks on transactions
- Supporting Corporate Relationship Managers to maintain an ongoing dialogue with clients to maximise MUFG's opportunities to win future business
- Managing non-financial risks related to the client base, e.g. conducting timely ongoing compliance and KYC checks for LF clients in line with internal and external processes and procedures
- Engaging with Internal Audit and their regular audit processes to ensure positive outcomes for the Leveraged Finance team
In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:
- Experience working within a banking / advisory or transactional environment
- Understanding and preferably practical experience of financial modelling
- Understanding of LBO transaction structures
- Basic knowledge of banking documentation
- Understanding of credit analysis and due diligence
- Basic negotiation skills with internal partners
- Proven ability to effectively manage tight deadlines and different stakeholders
- Basic knowledge of leveraged debt capital markets and M&A dynamics
- Familiarity with corporate finance principles and preferably accounting knowledge
- Experience in execution of transactions (including credit process) within tight timeframes
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Native or fluent German language skills are preferred. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required.
