The Role:
The Entegris Specialty Gas and Etch research, development, and engineering team is seeking a Product Development Engineer to provide technical leadership for analytical characterization, validation methodology development, and product return investigations supporting specialty gas packaging technologies. This role serves as a subject matter expert for products and systems that enable the safe, reliable storage and delivery of hazardous materials. The position is responsible for developing test strategies, interpreting complex data, communicating technical conclusions, supporting customer issue resolution, and partnering with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to drive product performance and continuous improvement.
In this role you will:
Serve as equipment owner for Specialty Gas analytical tools, including standard operating procedure development, user training, scheduling, maintenance coordination, and safe operating practices.
Lead analytical characterization and validation testing for specialty gas packaging components and fluid storage and delivery systems.
Develop test plans, execute experiments, analyze data, document conclusions, and prepare technical reports for internal and customer-facing use.
Lead product return investigations by evaluating returned products relative to reported customer issues, determining likely failure modes, recommending disposition, and supporting corrective actions.
Identify and propose improvements to products, test methods, equipment capabilities, and engineering processes.
Communicate technical findings, project risks, safety incidents, and conflicts clearly and promptly for the appropriate audience, level of detail, and communication channel.
Support technical leaders in the stage-gate process and be accountable for executing assigned deliverables, identifying risks, communicating status, and meeting project commitments.
Provide technical guidance to ER&D team members and cross-functional partners on analytical methods, validation approaches, hazardous gas handling, and product performance.
Adhere to a zero-release policy for hazardous materials and serve as a local champion for safe work practices and site procedures, including appropriate PPE, gas handling controls, and emergency response expectations for toxic, flammable, and/or corrosive gases.
Must be able to work fully on-site in both laboratory and office environments.
Must be able to lift and move gas cylinders weighing up to 50 lbs. (22.7 kg).
Ability to work in SCBA for up to 30 minutes at a time, as required.
Travel Required: Approximately 10%.
Traits we believe make a strong candidate:
BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
5+ years of relevant engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of relevant engineering experience with a master’s degree is required
Experience in the electronic gases industry is strongly preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex technical data and translate findings into clear recommendations.
Experience with analytical characterization methods such as GC, FTIR, CRDS, and RGA.
Knowledge of the design, operation, installation, maintenance, and safe use of gas handling and delivery systems and related components.
Demonstrated ability to develop test plans, execute experiments, write technical reports, and communicate conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory, engineering, and manufacturing environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, technical leadership, and ability to guide others without direct supervisory responsibility.
Experience in the electronic gases, specialty gas, semiconductor materials, or hazardous materials packaging industry.
Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action processes, validation planning, FMEA, MOC, or other engineering risk assessment methods.
Familiarity with applicable hazardous gas handling practices, product qualification activities, and customer-facing technical documentation.
