As a Sr. System Integration and Test Engineer, you will be responsible for the integration, bring-up, and validation of wireless payload features spanning the Kuiper satellite, ground gateways, phased-array antennas, and customer terminals.
You will work closely with antenna, RF, modem, software, networking, and systems engineering teams to bring new capabilities from initial laboratory integration through end-to-end operation. The role will support phased-array antenna integration, customer terminal link bring-up in the San Diego lab, and the development of capabilities that can be leveraged for 3GPP-based direct-to-device communications.
This position requires a hands-on systems engineer who can work across hardware and software boundaries, develop integration and test tooling, analyze complex system behavior, and drive issues to root cause. You must be flexible, responsive, and able to succeed within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
As a senior member of the Payload Integration and Test team, you will own verification and validation activities across the satellite payload, ground infrastructure, and customer terminals. This includes integrating phased-array antennas and wireless subsystems, developing software and automation for system bring-up, establishing end-to-end customer terminal links, and validating functional and performance requirements across RF, protocol, networking, and application layers.
Responsibilities
• Define and execute functional and performance test campaigns by partnering with systems, antenna, RF, modem, hardware, and software development teams to capture requirements, define use cases, and establish measurable pass/fail criteria.
• Lead hands-on integration and bring-up of phased-array antennas, customer terminals, modems, and supporting laboratory infrastructure.
• Support customer terminal link bring-up and end-to-end wireless system validation in the San Diego lab.
• Perform end-to-end functional and performance testing across ground equipment, satellites, customer terminals, wireless links, and cloud services.
• Develop Python-based tools and automation to configure systems, execute tests, collect telemetry, analyze results, and accelerate failure investigation.
• Apply cellular and 3GPP knowledge to wireless system integration and identify technologies, test methods, and capabilities that can be extended to direct-to-device applications.
• Expand laboratory test coverage by integrating RF and network test equipment and collaborating with internal teams and external equipment vendors.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, RF, protocol, and network integration failures by collecting data, analyzing logs and packet captures, comparing expected and observed behavior, and driving issues to root cause.
• Troubleshoot throughput degradation, packet loss, link establishment, mobility, and service continuity issues from the MAC layer through the application layer.
• Support reproduction and resolution of on-orbit functional and performance issues in laboratory environments.
• Create and maintain high-quality integration plans, test procedures, verification matrices, status tracking, test reports, and test records.
• Improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and scale through automation of test execution, environment configuration, data collection, and analysis.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of experience in wireless, satellite, cellular, RF, or complex systems integration and testing.
- Experience integrating hardware and software components in a laboratory environment and bringing up end-to-end communication links.
- Experience with Linux, networking fundamentals, system troubleshooting, and RF laboratory equipment.
- Experience developing integration, test, or automation software using Python or a similar programming language.
- Experience analyzing logs, packet captures, telemetry, and system traces to diagnose cross-layer failures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
- Experience integrating or validating phased-array antennas, antenna control systems, beamforming systems, RF front ends, or satellite communication payloads.
- Experience with 3GPP wireless systems, including RAN, protocol procedures, mobility, link establishment, or Non-Terrestrial Network technologies that can be applied to direct-to-device communications.
- Experience bringing up and debugging customer terminal, user equipment, modem, or similar wireless links in a laboratory environment.
- Experience with software-defined networking, network protocol development, or network protocol extensions.
- Experience using spectrum analyzers, channel emulators, network analyzers, customer terminal simulators, and vector signal analyzers or generators.
- Advanced proficiency developing Python-based integration and test frameworks.
- Experience with SQL, Grafana, telemetry pipelines, or similar data analysis and visualization tools.
- Experience with common AWS cloud services.
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills and demonstrated ability to drive ambiguous integration problems across multiple engineering teams.
