Job Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and shipping materials, tooling, and finished goods. This position helps ensure incoming materials meet quality requirements, warehouse areas remain organized, inventory is properly rotated using First In, First Out (FIFO) practices, and shelf-life items are monitored appropriately.
The Material Handler also prepares outgoing shipments, maintains shipping and quality records, performs inspections using measuring equipment, and supports the daily activities of the Supply Chain Department. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and consistent adherence to safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Receiving and Inspection
- Receive and inspect incoming materials.
- Assess raw materials for damage, defects, or nonconformance.
- Use calipers, tape measures, rulers, and other measuring devices to perform inspections.
- Accept or reject products and communicate findings to the Supply Chain Manager and Quality Assurance.
- Perform random inspections to assess ongoing product quality.
- Maintain accurate lot traceability and related documentation.
Warehouse Operations
- Maintain bulk warehouse and finished goods storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Perform cycle counts as needed.
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
- Ensure timely retrieval and issuance of materials and products.
- Rotate stock using FIFO practices to ensure older materials are used first.
- Monitor shelf-life items and remove expired materials from inventory in accordance with scrap procedures.
- Use FIFO practices when supplying hoses to production cells.
- Count materials and complete required paperwork neatly and accurately.
- Support inventory accuracy by reconciling discrepancies, updating inventory records, and escalating recurring issues to the Supply Chain Manager.
Shipping Operations
- Prepare products and materials for outgoing shipment.
- Safely and efficiently offload freight shipments.
- Maintain daily shipping reports and documentation.
- Package hoses and complete required computer-based shipping tasks.
- Ensure shipping supplies are stocked and maintained at appropriate levels.
General Expectations
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment that may include heat, humidity, noise, and active equipment.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Climb ladders while handling hoses or materials.
- Work with chemicals and tolerate related odors while following all required safety procedures.
- Read and interpret drawings accurately.
- Follow all safety requirements and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work quickly and accurately while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Follow directions carefully and seek clarification when needed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a productive work environment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members.
- Multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of six months of experience in a production, warehouse, shipping, receiving, or inventory environment preferred.
