Job Description
Working collaboratively within a team focused on integrating prototype advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) into production vehicles, this role supports the development of instrumented vehicles used for testing, validation, demonstrations, and data collection.
The System Integration Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing vehicle integration solutions, including sensor systems, measurement equipment, electrical architectures, and wiring schematics. The role also leads vehicle system bring-up, integration, troubleshooting, and end-to-end validation activities, ensuring hardware, software, and communication interfaces function together correctly to support testing, data collection, demonstrations, and development vehicle operation.
This position requires a strong hands-on electrical and system integration engineering mindset combined with a structured, documentation-driven approach.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain prototype system and vehicle integration requirements from cross-functional teams and propose appropriate technical solutions.
- Review, understand, and modify electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for sensors, ECUs, measurement systems, communication networks, and supporting hardware.
- Support design and integration of vehicle communication networks (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet), ensuring proper signal availability and system compatibility.
- Define and implement vehicle measurement and instrumentation solutions, including integration of data logging systems, Vector and ETAS toolchains, and Linux- and PC-based platforms (including ROS environments).
- Collaborate on implementation of power distribution concepts and detailed schematics, including wire sizing, fuse protection, load management, and integration of programmable power control elements (e.g., timed-delay circuits and solid-state switching devices), applying electrical fundamentals (current draw, voltage conversion, DC-DC systems, wire selection) to ensure robust and safe vehicle-level integration.
- Review and understand detailed Bills of Material (BoMs) for vehicle integration projects, including sensors, wiring components, measurement equipment, and supporting hardware.
- Support resolution of part availability and lead-time challenges with suppliers by supporting technical evaluation of components and alternative options.
- Provide technical documentation and work instructions for vehicle teardown, wiring modifications, sensor installation, and cable routing; collaborate with lab technicians to ensure builds align with engineering intent.
- Drive integration of sensor systems, ground-truth equipment, and measurement hardware within the vehicle environment.
- Drive vehicle sensor and system bring-up and debugging, including ECU communication checks, DTC analysis, signal verification, and measurement validation using automotive development tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, MATLAB, ROS, and ADTF.
- Lead system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis across vehicle electrical systems, communication networks, instrumentation, and integrated hardware to identify and resolve issues during build, bring-up, validation, and operation.
- Create and maintain integration documentation, including schematics, BoMs, and work instructions.
- Ensure accurate tracking of vehicle configurations, hardware usage, and system setups, and contribute to improving integration processes and documentation standards.
- Participate in end‑to‑end system integration testing and validation for ADAS technologies, including front cameras, surround‑view cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar, ensuring successful feature integration, interface compatibility, and release readiness for internal and external customers.
- Support vehicle system validation strategy and execution, including requirements engineering, test scope definition, test case development and review, configuration management, test data analysis, and documentation of validation results in compliance with established development and process guidelines.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automotive, Mechatronics, or related engineering field
- 3-5 years of experience in vehicle electrical systems, system integration, ADAS development, or related automotive engineering disciplines.
- Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to convey issues, risks, and timelines and effectively collaborate across teams
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in vehicle or system-level integration, including working with vehicle electrical systems, wiring, schematics, and instrumentation
- Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and automotive communication bus wiring. Example include voltage, current, power distribution, CAN termination, Ethernet cabling types
- Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex vehicle integration issues across electrical, communication, and hardware systems
- Comfortable working in hands-on vehicle and lab environments and in fast-paced, evolving development settings with changing configurations
- Strong attention to detail with a structured, documentation-driven approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ADAS development vehicles or prototype vehicle builds, including sensor systems (camera, radar, ultrasonic, LiDAR)
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet) and measurement/calibration toolchains (e.g., Vector, ETAS)
- Experience developing or managing Bills of Material (BoMs) and supporting hardware procurement
- Understanding of vehicle power systems, including high-voltage concepts and voltage conversion (e.g., DC-DC integration) and internal combustion charging systems
