Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be successful as a Software Engineer, you should have experience with:
- Define and establish processes for Environment Team engagement and governance.
- Plan, provision, and support environments for upcoming projects and deliveries.
- Manage the procurement and readiness of test environments for E2E testing.
- Diagnose, analyse, and resolve environment-related issues identified during E2E testing.
- Coordinate and lead issue triage activities across Mainframe, Open Systems, Infrastructure, and Platform teams.
- Support UKBA batch processing and batch-related environment activities.
- Ensure timely environment availability and stability to support release delivery schedules.
- Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering.
- Collaborate with E2E Test Teams and Infrastructure Teams to build strategic cloud-based environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Design, provision, and manage environments across Physical, Virtual, and Cloud platforms.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, support, and maintenance activities.
- Implement solutions that improve customer and user experience while optimizing operational costs.
- Support OpenShift and cloud infrastructure environments, ensuring scalability, resilience, and performance.

- Develop and identify tools and capabilities that improve environment quality, efficiency, and reliability.

Key stakeholders are Test Manager, Tech Delivery Managers, Test Leads, Technical Leads/Architects and Solution Designers. The role requires that the Software Engineer has sufficient skills to manage any daily issues that would hamper testing and Devops activities. Must take the initiative to update his/her skill set and share knowledge gained through participation in team meetings and knowledge sharing sessions. Judgement and analytical skills required to resolve complex technical and functional problems within end-to-end testing landscape. The role is key for delivering quality and on-time execution of the testing. Previous Barclays Experience. Understanding of Mainframes, Digital Channels and Barclays Systems will be an added Advantage. Understanding of Cloud Technologies like AWS, Azure.
