Job Description Lead AECOM’s New Zealand
Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (E,C&I) team into this key practice area and market. You will be leading and refining the strategic approach across the Energy, Generation, Manufacturing, Food Processing, Industrial and related Electrical sectors, shaping our services to align with market needs and growth areas with our clients. In this role, you will have the remit to continue to build AECOM’s reputation in the market working with external clients to initiate, understand, and provide technical, project and advisory services across complex and rapidly evolving E,C&I and related projects, client and site requirements. You will be leading activities across business development and client relationship management, engaging with key clients as a trusted advisor, to understanding their current and future needs. You will also be balancing project delivery excellence, supporting the delivery of complex, innovative, and rapidly evolving technical requirements in the E,C&I discipline working with client technical teams, site teams, senior leaders, external contractors and other key stakeholders. In addition, you will be leading AECOM’s NZ E,C&I team, helping to support their continued development as well as growing their technical abilities, delivery and consulting skills. Mentoring, coaching and developing others will be important in this role as well as developing succession plans across the team along with leading recruitment balanced with pipeline and client needs. You will be part of the AECOM Generation & Storage team and Energy business line in New Zealand (NZ), with technical subject matter expertise available across multiple disciplines to provide solutions for project and client requirements. The fast-paced and innovative nature of projects will suit a business and technical leader looking to grow client relationships and make a difference across the sector in a client and market facing role.
How you will make a difference- Lead the E,C&I practice area across NZ, across market and client requirements, technical service offerings, and team development.
- Act as a trusted advisor for the sector and external clients, providing technical knowledge and advisory insight across energy and project options during project initiation.
- Lead business development activities, including bid and proposal response processes, working across AECOM’s team of subject matter engineering disciplines.
- Oversea the technical approach working with client technical teams, as well as with AECOM disciplines, applying your E,C&I and related engineering capability.
- Ensuring and leading the E,C&I approach to project delivery excellence, including Project or Design Management leadership ensuring scope, timeframe and client budget requirements are met.
- Provide mentoring and coaching for the development of others in the E,C&I team, supporting their career development and the growth of the team’s technical capability and capacity.
Ideally based in Auckland, this role has scope to be based in other main AECOM offices throughout New Zealand. Some domestic travel maybe required depending on client, site, project and people leadership requirements.
Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will be a leader known across the E,C&I discipline, with a track record of working with clients, delivering complex E,C&I related projects as a trusted advisor with clients and this market. You will be known for your ability to connect with senior leaders, to understand their technical, commercial and project needs, and being able to provide solutions and proposals that meet these needs. You will be motivated by the opportunity to lead the growth of this market, client relationships and business unit within AECOM, working across different disciplines. What you will bring- Current relationships and a network working with a broad range of industrial, processing, manufacturing, generation and related clients including large corporate and public sector clients.
- A track record and ability for building positive client relationships, across senior leaders and with technical engineering, project and site teams.
- Deep knowledge of E,C&I engineering requirements including binary cycle engineering concepts.
- Significant experience (15+ years) across the instrumentation, controls and electric domain areas with a focus on project delivery on large, complex projects.
- Track record assuring quality and compliance—confirming what is built aligns with detailed design and contractual performance obligations.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills across technical and commercial domains.
- People and team leadership experience, including establishing frameworks and approaches to develop others technical, project delivery, and consulting abilities.
- A relevant engineering degree ideally with a postgraduate qualification such as being a Chartered Engineer or similar designation.
