This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings Building Systems Team in St. Louis, Missouri. This position is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in building systems design and project delivery across commercial, healthcare, higher education, science & technology, federal, industrial, and civic markets.
As a technical leader, you will play a key role in delivering innovative mechanical solutions, managing complex projects, supporting client relationships, and mentoring engineering staff. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality design services from concept through construction.
Your Impact
- Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery for a diverse portfolio of building projects.
- Serve as the technical lead for HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and life safety systems from planning through construction administration.
- Manage projects and engineering teams to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions.
- Serve as a client-facing representative and trusted advisor throughout project execution.
- Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and project pursuits.
- Perform and review engineering calculations, studies, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy standards, and industry best practices.
- Support commissioning, field investigations, and construction-phase services as required.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support to junior engineers and designers.
- Foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Mechanical Engineering practice.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary building projects through design and construction.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plant systems, hydronics, plumbing systems, and building energy performance.
- Experience preparing construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and industry-standard mechanical engineering software.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and client relationship skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Experience serving healthcare, higher education, commercial, science & technology, industrial, federal, or civic markets.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and engineering teams.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices, energy modeling, and decarbonization strategies.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), WELL AP, or other sustainability credentials.
- Experience supporting business development and client relationship management.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $107,600 - $159,800
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
