Senior/Principal Water Engineer
Our busy Tauranga business has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Water Engineer at either an Senior or Principal level. You will lead innovative projects across stormwater, wastewater, and potable water systems, while maintaining and building strong client relationships throughout the Bay of Plenty region. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with regional and national clients, delivering technical excellence and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality investigations, analysis, and consulting services for clients on assigned Water engineering projects, including preparing detailed reports and technical documents.
- Provide specialist technical advice and produce practical, buildable designs and stormwater treatment solutions, including calculations and drawings.
- Undertake feasibility studies and prepare reports suitable for client review and decision-making.
- Support clients with asset condition assessments, renewals planning, and long-term infrastructure strategies.
- Manage projects, including preparing briefs, fee estimates, project plans, and ensuring timely and clear reporting.
- Lead or contribute to proposals, bids, and presentations aligned with client needs and WSP’s strategic goals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with project teams and key clients, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
- Ensure all work meets professional, technical, quality assurance, and health & safety standards.
- Actively participate in business development by identifying and pursuing new opportunities in the region.
About You
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
- Minimum eight years’ consultancy experience in a broad range of water and wastewater engineering projects.
- Knowledge and experience of relevant New Zealand standards.
- Working towards or achieved chartership status (CPEng required for principal level).
- Proven track record in project delivery and client satisfaction.
- A collaborative, client-centric mindset. Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
- High emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability.
- Current, clean driver licence.
