The Opportunity
Build the Future with Us
As an Intermediate Systems Requirements Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in delivering a major urban rail extension project in the Greater Toronto Area. This role sits at the intersection of new‑build rail systems and existing operational transit infrastructure, where disciplined systems engineering and strong collaboration are essential.
Working closely with Project Managers, Chief Engineers, and multi‑disciplinary technical teams, you’ll support the planning and execution of systems requirements activities while helping ensure alignment across design, cost, schedule, and compliance. You’ll also have opportunities to lead defined scopes of work, shape systems engineering processes, and grow as a technical leader within a consulting environment.
Your Impact
- Administer and maintain the project requirements repository using IBM DOORS Next Generation, ensuring configuration control, traceability, and alignment with design and verification activities.
- Perform requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation to support coordinated delivery across multi‑disciplinary rail and transit design teams.
- Support design compliance by ensuring requirements are clearly linked to external systems, interfaces, and downstream design outputs.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of project requirements as they relate to joint venture scope, cost, and schedule commitments.
- Manage requirements changes by capturing updates to the Project Agreement and associated documentation in accordance with the established Change Management process.
- Collaborate with Systems, Signals, Communications, SCADA, and Traction Power teams to support integrated systems delivery.
- Contribute to the development of systems engineering execution plans, processes, and best practices across rail projects.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, with exposure to requirements management across the engineering design life cycle.
- Experience working in transit, rail, or other safety‑critical industries.
- Strong working knowledge of systems engineering principles, including the V‑Model and requirements traceability.
- Hands‑on experience with requirements management tools, preferably IBM DOORS NG.
- Ability to work effectively in multi‑disciplinary, multi‑stakeholder project environments.
- Familiarity with railway systems such as signalling, communications, SCADA, traction power, or overhead catenary systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of Metrolinx Design Standards and Manuals is considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Ontario and/or INCOSE certification (ASEP/CSEP) are assets.
