This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Nuclear Geotechnical Project Manager in any of our offices in the United States. The work will primarily consist of the practice of geotechnical engineering for safety related subsurface investigations in support of new nuclear power plants. You will serve as a technical professional and/or leader for in-depth investigations of the geologic profile, seismicity, surface ruptures, voids, slope stability, aquifers, reactor excavation design, and foundation design. Responsible for SME innovation and administration; ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal environmental and safety regulations; and providing direction to address current and future environmental challenges in a rapidly changing and complex business climate.
Your Impact
- Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the scientific discipline and function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.
- Lead planning, execution, and delivery of complex safety-related site characterization and licensing projects, including development of execution strategies, schedules, budgets, resource plans, risk registers, and subcontractor management plans.
- Actively foster compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental laws, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with utilities, reactor developers, regulatory stakeholders, and project partners while serving as a primary point of contact for assigned projects.
- Manage project financial performance, including forecasting, earned value, change management, subcontract administration, and achievement of project profitability objectives.
- Support business development activities including proposal strategy, scope development, estimating, interviewing, and client account growth.
- Ensure that scientific discipline certifications, accreditations, and value proposition is developed and continuously improved.
- Schedule scientific discipline meetings, providing updates and recommendations to ensure that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to inculcate discipline expertise and innovation into project work.
- Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics.
- Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound scientific and regulatory conclusions.
- Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
- Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Operate within WSP's Nuclear Program Management Office (PMO) framework to support consistent delivery, quality assurance, risk management, and client satisfaction across multiple concurrent projects.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience managing engineering or construction projects larger than $5million.
- 10+ years of engineering experience in a corporate environment.
- 3+ years of in support of licensing, design, or construction of nuclear power facilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with project planning, critical path scheduling, risk identification, mitigation planning, and execution management for technically complex engineering projects.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle, including planning, procurement, field execution, quality assurance, client engagement, regulatory interactions, reporting, and project closeout.
- Demonstrated experience working under Nuclear Quality Assurance Programs that meet the requirements of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1.
- Experience with the collection of field data using soil borings, rock coring, CPTs, geophysical methods, etc.
- Experience reviewing and summarizing detailed geologic papers and studies.
- Experience assigning, evaluating, and interpreting geotechnical laboratory testing and analyses.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to evolving client requirements, rapidly changing licensing strategies, and dynamic field conditions while maintaining safe and compliant project execution.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Experience managing large-scale geotechnical and hydrogeologic site investigation programs involving multiple drilling subcontractors, field teams, laboratory programs, and quality assurance requirements.
