WSP is seeking an Interface Management Support- Civil Engineer to join our dynamic California Transportation team.
This role will be based in a client office in San Jose.
The Interface Management Support- Civil Engineer role supports the Interface Manager working as a team to administer and manage the interface documents for a multi-billion tunnel transit Project in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Project consists of a progressive design-build contract where the design-builders are responsible to manage inter-contract interfaces between design-build contractors in accordance with the Project’s interface documents. Future construction package will also be implemented with delivery methods not yet finalized. The Interface team administers the Project’s interface documents and facilitates coordination between design-build contractors for compliance with the Project’s interface documents. The Interface Management team works closely with the Requirements Manager, Configuration Manager, and the Systems Integration Manager regarding overall coordination of the Project’s interfaces and requirements. The Interface Management team will also work closely with the Project Controls Manager regarding scheduling and change management such that interface management decisions are performed within the Project’s schedule and budget requirements.
Your Impact
- Perform professional civil engineering work and assist with conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Assist in site visits to observe construction work in order to facilitate coordination of inter-contract interface items and verify compliance of interface items.
- Support project team members in all aspects of interface management protocols.
- Collaborate with the project team, contractors, Owner, and third parties to facilitate, coordinate, and administer the interface documents throughout the project.
- Document interfaces using requirements management software, such as Helix or Doors.
- Administer the project’s interface documents and work with interface manager to facilitate coordination between contractors for compliance with the project’s interface documents.
- Attend and participate in weekly collaboration meetings with the design builders’ Interface Managers, and third parties as applicable.
- Participate in internal and external risk assessment exercises.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
- Experience in transit, tunnels, and BART is preferred.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to conduct construction site visits to observe construction work in order to facilitate coordination of inter-contract interface items and verify compliance of interface items.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $100,000- $135,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
