Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Los Angeles, CA.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare and other complex building sectors, including commercial, higher education, and civic projects. You will play a key role in leading multi-disciplinary projects and delivering high-quality mechanical systems design from concept through construction.

Your Impact
- Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, commercial, higher education, and civic facilities
- Oversee design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, and life safety systems
- Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
- Manage projects from concept development through construction and close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
- Support client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth in multiple sectors
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sector-specific requirements, including healthcare regulations
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and designers
- Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems
- Experience supporting healthcare and/or complex institutional or commercial projects
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building systems design, and engineering principles
- Experience managing projects through design and construction phases
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools
- Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civic
- Familiarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirements
- Experience supporting business development and client relationship management
- LEED AP or other sustainability credentials

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $122, 700- $182,200
