The Opportunity
Join WSP’s growing Prairies & North team as a Hydraulic Structures Engineer based in Lethbridge or Calgary, Alberta. You’ll play a meaningful role in delivering water and infrastructure projects that strengthen and protect communities across the region. In this position, you’ll contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of structural systems for water‑related infrastructure, working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Your Impact
- Apply structural engineering fundamentals to support the design and assessment of water and infrastructure projects across the Prairies.
- Perform reinforced concrete and structural steel calculations under supervision, contributing to safe and reliable designs.
- Support the analysis and design of hydraulic structures such as spillways, weirs, culverts, headwalls, floodwalls, and retaining structures.
- Assist with evaluating hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, uplift, soil, ice, debris, and seismic loads relevant to water infrastructure.
- Contribute to structural stability analyses including sliding, overturning, and bearing capacity checks.
- Interpret geotechnical reports and collaborate with geotechnical specialists to inform structural solutions.
- Support preparation of technical calculations, reports, and drawing reviews in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Strong foundation in structural engineering fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel design, with the ability to complete basic calculations under supervision.
- Exposure to hydraulic structures and water infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
- Understanding of structural loading conditions related to water infrastructure, including hydrostatic and seismic effects, is an asset.
- Familiarity with geotechnical–structural interfaces and interpreting geotechnical reports for design applications.
- Experience with engineering software such as SAP2000 (or similar), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Excel; hydraulic modelling exposure is an asset.
- Ability to assist with technical documentation, calculations, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Strong communication, organizational skills, and a growth mindset, with registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA.

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $107,800 – $144,900
MB & ON: $98,400 – $137,400
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $97,400 – $131,200
