Join WSP’s Geotechnical & Materials team in Fort McMurray, Alberta, where your work directly supports some of Canada’s most complex and impactful infrastructure, energy, and resource projects. This is an opportunity to apply your field expertise in challenging environments while growing your technical capabilities alongside industry‑leading professionals.
Your Impact
You will:
- Champion a strong health, safety, and environmental culture by applying site‑specific HSE policies and procedures;
- Monitor geotechnical drilling programs, instrumentation installations, and core sample collection activities;
- Install and maintain geotechnical instrumentation supporting slope stability and foundation assessments;
- Perform construction monitoring to ensure compliance with design and quality standards;
- Conduct materials field and laboratory testing in accordance with applicable standards;
- Complete geotechnical core logging and instrumentation monitoring;
- Prepare clear, accurate field and laboratory reports that support sound engineering decisions.
The Skills That Set You Apart
You bring:
- A college diploma in Geotechnical, Geological, Construction, or Civil Engineering;
- 1–3 years of related experience in geotechnical or materials testing environments;
- Working knowledge of soil mechanics, including the Unified Soil Classification System;
- Experience with geotechnical drilling and instrument installation;
- Construction monitoring experience, ideally on active field projects;
- Experience working in the Alberta Oil Sands region (considered an asset);
- Flexibility to work rotational schedules (1–3 weeks on, days and/or nights);
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Ability to work long, physically demanding hours in remote locations and adverse weather conditions;
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform strenuous tasks such as shoveling and augering;
- A valid, unrestricted Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to provide a satisfactory driving abstract.

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $24.40 – $32.70 per hour
MB & ON: $22.20 – $31.00 per hour
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $22.00 – $29.60 per hour
