Apply WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Senior P&C Field Services Technician for our project locations in the states of Texas and Louisiana. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization that is solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.
This Opportunity
- Delivers advanced technical support across environmental, construction, and infrastructure-related field activities by performing complex assignments and leading day‑to‑day technical activities on site within established project parameters
- Applies deep knowledge of field procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to lead inspections, data collection, sampling, and technical troubleshooting
- Serves as a field resource for resolving non-routine challenges, ensuring quality control, and maintaining operational continuity
- Provides technical direction to junior staff, supports project execution, and contributes to risk mitigation and compliance efforts across diverse and active field environments

Your Impact
- Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
- Perform on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested are SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60 among others
- Follow safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and job hazard assessments
- Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities
- Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed
- Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects
- Apply advanced technical knowledge of field instrumentation and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervision
- Lead tailgate safety meetings, daily job hazard analyses, and support regulatory compliance walkthroughs
- Provide input to field schedules, equipment needs, and task prioritization to support project managers
- Coordinate with subcontractors on site preparation, testing logistics, and equipment deployment
- Maintain and track calibration and maintenance logs for field equipment and vehicles
- Monitor and promote compliance with site-specific health, safety, and environmental protocols
- Communicate field status, risks, and updates to project leadership and technical staff
- Support logistics for multi-day assignments, including material planning and crew deployment
- Collaborate with technical specialists to integrate findings into broader reporting and analysis
- Adapt procedures to meet site-specific requirements while maintaining compliance with regulations
- Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement in field data quality, safety, or scheduling
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 9 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
- Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes
- Proven technical skills related to protective relays include relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays
- Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards
- Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers
- Strong understanding of technical software for testing purposes and data review: ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset
- Demonstrable ability to identify and respond to field challenges and equipment malfunctions
- Proficient in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports
- Physical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions
- Significant experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineers
- Demonstrated commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for field team collaboration
- Capability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environments
- Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and maintain accountability in the field
- Commitment to continued learning and development in technical field services
- Understanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environments
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently or with a team
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
- Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays
- Experience in testing and commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and battery chargers
- Current OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
