This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Consultant Water Resources Engineer-North Carolina for one of our North Carolina offices. We are looking for a motivated and technically strong civil designer who is working toward acquiring their Engineering License (PE) to join our Water Resources Team. This is an opportunity to be involved in a vast array of water resources projects, serving as the primary designer for projects, continuing to develop skills in both modeling and drafting. The candidate would work closely with a local team to deliver high-quality projects incorporating H&H design principles. The project work includes planning, analysis and design of stormwater conveyance systems, complex hydraulic modeling, stream restoration, SCM design, site grading, and plan production.

Your Impact
- Engage with local project teams that are making the biggest impacts in our statewide community, including: NCDOT, Raleigh, Charlotte, Wilmington, and Wake Forest
- Contribute to design efforts throughout the engineering phase and support project delivery from preliminary alternatives analysis through final design, permitting, bidding, and construction phases.

- Support project teams in the preparation of technical reports and designs for water resources projects.
- Ensure that production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meets scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, conduct and related policies and procedures
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Biological & Agriculture, or a related field of engineering from an accredited program
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- On track to acquire a professional engineer’s (PE) license, within four years
- More than two years of relevant experience with civil engineering principles and practices and project experience in some or all of the following areas:
- Grading and plan production (AutoCAD or Open Roads Designer)
- Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage system design, site layout, and coordination with other civil design disciplines
- Environmental, floodplain, and/or site development permitting
- Strong communication skills and ability to work consistently with other members of our water resources team and to coordinate with other disciplines at WSP
- Strong background using modeling and design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, CivilStorm/StormCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS etc.
- Perform and assemble design calculations, and prepare documents including reports, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates with support from a supervising engineer
- Demonstrates commitment to producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to contribute to the delivery of civil engineering projects with H&H design components
- Recent experience with NCDOT and/or municipal (NC)stormwater projects
- Familiarity with:
- NCDOT drainage design criteria and standards
- Local municipal design standards and specifications
- Community involvement and affiliation with relevant professional societies
