Lead the future of underground infrastructure in Canada.
Based in the Greater Toronto Area, this senior role sits within WSP’s Underground Structures and Geotechnical Excellence team, supporting complex mining, tunneling, energy, and civil infrastructure projects across Ontario, Québec, and Canada.
Here, your experience shapes how underground systems—tunnels, shafts, galleries, and deep excavations—are designed, reviewed, and delivered. You will influence technical direction, mentor emerging talent, and help advance resilient, sustainable infrastructure that serves communities today and into the future.

Your Impact
- Lead and oversee advanced geotechnical design for underground structures including tunnels, shafts, galleries, and deep excavation systems.
- Provide senior technical authority across projects, ensuring sound engineering judgment, constructability, and risk‑informed decision‑making.
- Define, interpret, and validate geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological parameters that guide complex underground designs.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical deliverables such as design reports, Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBRs), calculation notes, drawings, and specifications.
- Support geotechnical risk management, procurement strategies, contractor interfaces, and regulatory compliance.
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers, fostering consistency, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, environmental, transportation, hydrogeology, and electromechanical specialists.
- Contribute to innovation, optimization, and continuous improvement of underground and geotechnical engineering practices across WSP Canada.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required; eligible for registration in Ontario.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical and underground design, including tunneling, rock mechanics, and deep excavation projects.
- Demonstrated expertise applying Canadian and international standards and guidelines (AFTES, ITA, CSA, Eurocodes, ASTM, FHWA).
- Advanced proficiency with numerical modeling and geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, and the Rocscience suite.
- Proven ability to provide senior technical review, mentor engineers, and coordinate across disciplines.
- Experience with mining, hydroelectric, or large‑scale infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.

MB & ON: $100,900 – $139,000
