The Opportunity – Build the Future with Us
Be part of a long‑term, large‑scale oil sands program that will help shape resource development in Northern Alberta.
We proactively invite Geotechnical and Environmental Field Technicians and Professionals to apply, in anticipation of a major fly‑in / fly‑out project in Fort McMurray, expected to begin in Q4 2026 and continue for approximately five years.
Working on a two‑weeks‑in / two‑weeks‑out rotation, you’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team delivering critical field investigations and monitoring that support safe project delivery. Flights and oil sands camp accommodation are provided, with travel originating from Calgary, Edmonton, or Fort McMurray.
Your Impact
- Champion a strong safety culture by actively promoting and following WSP’s Health and Safety policies and Life Saving Rules.
- Execute geotechnical and environmental field programs including drilling, soil sampling, test pitting, and on‑site monitoring.
- Collect, manage, and maintain accurate field data, logs, and testing documentation.
- Support laboratory and field testing programs that inform design and construction decisions.
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve field‑related issues efficiently.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of a multi‑year, high‑profile oil sands project.
- Represent WSP on site with professionalism, technical competence, and integrity.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A Civil Engineering Technology diploma or degree, or education in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering.
- Hands‑on experience with drilling programs, soil sampling, test pitting, and geotechnical field investigations.
- Knowledge of soil testing, subgrade evaluation, and foundation preparation practices.
- Proficiency with common industry software used for field data collection and reporting.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Clear and effective English communication skills for interacting with engineers, contractors, and clients.
- A valid Alberta driver’s licence and the ability to work in a fly‑in / fly‑out camp environment.
