Join Thermo King as Senior Manager, PMO (Project Management Office)! In this role, you will lead the PMO strategy, operating model, and execution practices that enable effective, efficient, and predictable delivery of our product development portfolio. You will partner across functions and with senior leaders to strengthen portfolio governance, improve execution performance, develop project and program management capability, and help bring new and improved products to market through a disciplined stage-gate product development process.
Additionally, you will play a critical role in connecting business strategy to execution by driving portfolio planning, prioritization, resource allocation, financial visibility, risk management, and process improvement across the product development organization. The ideal candidate brings strong business acumen, excellent people leadership, and a proven ability to lead through influence across all levels of the organization.
What you will do:
- Lead the PMO function for Thermo King, including portfolio governance, program/project management standards, operating mechanisms, and execution discipline across product development.
- Partner with business and functional leaders to translate strategy into a prioritized, executable product development portfolio that aligns demand, capacity, timing, investment, and business value.
- Lead the annual and multi-year portfolio planning processes, including Long Range Plan (LRP), Annual Operating Plan (AOP), innovation reviews, and related portfolio decision forums.
- Establish, monitor, and continuously improve PMO performance metrics, including delivery predictability, schedule adherence, resource utilization, cost performance, risk management effectiveness, and portfolio health.
- Own visibility to overall product development portfolio performance, including budget, resource capacity, milestone delivery, key risks, and expected business value.
- Lead complex prioritization and tradeoff decisions across competing initiatives to optimize business outcomes within budgetary and resource constraints.
- Drive strong financial stewardship across the product development portfolio, including budget planning, forecasting, benefits tracking, and management of investment decisions within budgetary and resource constraints.
- Build organizational capability in program and project management by assessing talent, coaching leaders and practitioners, and strengthening the overall PMO talent pipeline.
- Lead, coach, and develop project and program managers to improve execution quality, business acumen, stakeholder management, and risk-based decision making.
- Foster a proactive risk management culture by improving risk identification, mitigation planning, escalation practices, and team capability in managing uncertainty.
- Lead cross-functional governance forums, gate reviews, and execution reviews to ensure alignment, accountability, sound decision making, and timely resolution of issues.
- Drive adoption of improved processes, tools, and governance practices that strengthen product development effectiveness and organizational maturity, including, but not limited to, PMO, PDP, and PPM process and tool enhancements.
- Partner with enterprise and business stakeholders to benchmark, standardize, and improve PMO methodologies, governance, tools, and reporting.
- Lead special projects and business transformation initiatives related to product development effectiveness, operating model improvement, and execution excellence.
- Influence and align stakeholders across functions and levels, including senior leaders, to enable decisions, remove barriers, and deliver business outcomes.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field and 10+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
- Significant experience leading complex programs, portfolios, or PMO functions in a product development, engineering, manufacturing, or similarly complex environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading people, including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
- Experience partnering across functions and influencing decisions with senior leaders in a matrixed organization.
- Experience with portfolio planning, prioritization, resource management, and governance processes.
- Experience managing financial aspects of projects or portfolios, including planning, forecasting, and performance tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to improve execution performance through standard work, metrics, operating mechanisms, and continuous improvement.
- Experience leading organizational change, process improvement, or business transformation initiatives.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10–15%.
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field.
- PMP, PMI certification, or comparable program/project management credential.
- Experience in stage-gate product development and portfolio management.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery models.
- Experience with PPM tools and portfolio reporting systems.
- Experience in a global or highly matrixed organization.
