The Shipping Team Leader is responsible for coordinating day-to-day finished goods yard and shipping activities to ensure the safe, timely, accurate, and efficient movement of outbound product in support of customer demand and shipping schedules. This role provides frontline leadership for shipment flow, trailer coordination, inventory accuracy, standard work execution, and cross-functional communication. The Shipping Team Leader supports the daily direction, training, and coordination of approximately 8 to 15 team members and helps maintain compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards. This position works primarily in an outdoor finished goods yard environment and requires the ability to perform effectively in changing and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
What you will do:
- Coordinate daily finished goods yard and shipping operations to support on-time and accurate outbound shipments.
- Lead workflow within the assigned area using established standard work, work content, and operating procedures.
- Coordinate trailer movement, yard staging flow, and shipment priorities.
- Monitor shipping schedules and adjust daily execution in response to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Promote and support LEAN principles, 5S, visual management, and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain performance standards within the assigned area and collaborate with adjacent teams to meet operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety rules, yard traffic requirements, and standard work expectations.
- Verify shipment readiness, trailer status, load accuracy, and completion of required system transactions and documentation.
- Support inventory accuracy by ensuring finished goods are properly staged, tracked, and shipped.
- Document daily activities through required logs, boards, trackers, and reports.
- Submit required paperwork and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
- Partner effectively with production, materials, transportation, quality, and safety personnel.
- Provide day-to-day work direction, training, and coaching to 8 to 15 team members in the assigned area.
- Support onboarding and skills development to ensure safe and effective team execution.
- Escalate issues affecting safety, delivery, inventory, staffing, or equipment availability.
- Participate in and support team meetings, operational reviews, and improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate positive, professional, and proactive behavior in alignment with company values.
- Maintain flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or in other departments as business needs require.
What you will bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Forklift Certification required.
- CDL required.
- Experience in shipping, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or related operations required.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily work and support team execution in a fast-paced environment required.
- Working knowledge of shipping, trailer, yard flow, and inventory control processes required.
- Experience using shipping, inventory, yard management, or reporting systems required.
- Prior team lead or informal leadership experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP, TMS, or yard management systems preferred.
- Experience in a LEAN manufacturing or continuous improvement environment preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
