The Principal Software Engineer - Tax Technology serves as a senior technical resource responsible for driving software engineering execution across tax technology platforms and solutions. This role partners with architecture, product, tax, finance, security, infrastructure, and enterprise technology teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient software solutions that support tax calculation, compliance, reporting, and enterprise integrations.
This role translates architectural direction into high-quality engineering outcomes while supporting modernization, automation, reliability, and operational excellence across the Tax Technology ecosystem. The role also helps advance engineering maturity by mentoring engineers, promoting consistent development practices, and identifying practical uses of AI-assisted engineering tools in alignment with enterprise governance, security, and compliance expectations.

Job Responsibilities:
- Drive engineering projects to deliver software solutions that meet technical requirements and quality standards.
- Provide technical leadership by mentoring engineers and influencing technology and policy decisions across the organization.
- Evaluate and apply technology strategies that align with business goals and system requirements.
- Develop innovative software designs and improvements that improve existing systems and processes.
- Produce clear technical documentation and architecture descriptions for internal and external partners.
- Lead technical execution for Tax Technology initiatives supporting tax calculation, compliance, reporting, and related business processes.
- Partner with architecture leadership to translate target-state architecture and design decisions into effective engineering solutions and implementation plans.
- Design, build, and support backend services, APIs, integration layers, orchestration services, and supporting data platforms that enable end-to-end tax workflows.
- Support integrations between tax platforms and enterprise applications, including billing systems, ERP platforms, exemption services, financial systems, and external service providers.
- Ensure software solutions meet performance, scalability, availability, security, and maintainability requirements.
- Promote reusable frameworks, engineering accelerators, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence practices.
- Contribute technical expertise and recommendations supporting modernization initiatives, platform investments, delivery practices, and engineering standards.
- Evaluate new technologies, including AI-assisted engineering capabilities, and recommend practical applications that align with business objectives and enterprise standards.
- Communicate sophisticated technical concepts and recommendaoptimallytively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Also responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by business management as needed.
Education and Work Experience:

- Experience leading technical implementation efforts across complex enterprise software environments.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across multiple teams or initiatives.
- Experience with indirect tax platforms such as Vertex O-Series, Vertex Edge, or similar tax technology solutions.
- Experience supporting telecommunications, financial, compliance, or other highly regulated business environments.
- Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as billing systems, ERP platforms, financial systems, and external service providers.
- Experience with .NET Core/.NET, Angular, API development, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience with SQL Server, AWS RDS, database design, and enterprise data integration.
- Experience with cloud-native and hybrid deployments across AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, and on-premises environments.
- Experience with containerization, orchestration platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, or infrastructure automation.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools or implementing AI-enabled business solutions.
- Experience supporting application modernization, cloud adoption, platform consolidation, or legacy system rationalization.

Base Pay Range: $133,500 - $240,700

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
