Your Opportunity We are seeking a part-time, Laboratory Assistant to join our Archaeology team in Ontario with a weekly hourly maximum of approximately 15 hours. This role will be based out of our London, Ontario office. This role will primarily support the processing of archaeological materials through careful artifact washing and related laboratory tasks. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, reliable, able to follow established procedures, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities
- Wash artifacts recovered from archaeological fieldwork using established laboratory procedures and appropriate care for different material types;
- Maintain provenience information by keeping artifact bags, labels, and associated records organized throughout the washing process;
- Sort, re-bag, and prepare washed artifacts for further processing, cataloguing, analysis, or storage as directed;
- Assist with general laboratory organization, including moving materials through processing areas, maintaining clean workstations, and supporting inventory control;
- Follow direction from Laboratory Managers and Team Leaders and communicate any concerns related to artifact condition, labelling, or organization;
- On-the-job training specific to archaeological laboratory procedures and artifact washing will be provided;
- Actively participate in and promote Stantec’s Health and Safety program.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow exact instructions and established procedures;
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable performing repetitive, hands-on tasks with care and consistency;
- Able to communicate clearly with laboratory staff and ask questions when procedures or labels are unclear;
- Able to take direction and feedback from others and work both independently and collaboratively.
Education and Experience Previous experience in archaeology, anthropology, laboratory work, collections management, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required; Interest in archaeology, cultural heritage, or environmental consulting is considered an asset; Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, are considered an asset. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Pay Range:- Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$41,900.00 - $56,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
