Graduate Electrical Engineer in our
Edinburgh office, where you will be part of our market-leading Water Power & Dams team within Energy & Resources.
About The Role As aGraduate Electrical Engineer, you will balance technical learning with practical project delivery on some of the world’s largest, most complex, and most exciting dams, hydropower, and pumped storage hydro schemes. You will sit within a dedicated, growing multidisciplinary design group, collaborating with civil, mechanical, and hydraulic specialists across all phases of project development—from initial feasibility through outline and detailed design to commissioning. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking electrical engineering calculations and developing outline/detailed designs for hydropower equipment and balance of plant systems.
- Assisting with the technical specification and selection of transformers, switchgear, generators, control systems, and auxiliary electrical equipment.
- Supporting design work across electrical balance of plant systems, grid connection interfaces, cable routing, and protection systems.
- Utilising 3D modelling tools within a Building Information Modelling (BIM) environment to produce detailed models, single line diagrams (SLDs), and layout drawings.
- Contributing to the production of high-quality technical specifications, feasibility studies, risk assessments, and engineering reports.
- Integrating closely with associated disciplines—such as civil, structural, and mechanical engineering—to create unified project solutions.
We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the
Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or
Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) .

About You At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with an accredited degree (
BEng/ MEng in Electrical Engineering or a closely related power systems discipline), and a keen interest in the energy transition. You will also be:
