We are looking for a talented intermediate process mechanical engineer focused on the planning and engineering design of municipal and industrial water/wastewater conveyance projects who wants to be part of a purpose-driven organization that’s focused on helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. In this role, you will join the Burnaby, British Columbia office, supporting projects in across British Columbia as well as throughout Western Canada. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys solving hydraulic and mechanical design problems, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to projects from concept development through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and start-up. The successful candidate will prepare calculations, technical memoranda, drawings, specifications, and design reports, and will support equipment selection for pumps, valves, piping, and related systems. Projects assigned may be broad, varied and diverse in scope. Our group is involved in a wide range of water, wastewater and stormwater conveyance infrastructure projects including everything from small wastewater lift stations, drinking water booster pump stations and large drainage pump stations. You will primarily be working on water and wastewater conveyance, storage and pumping station related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines. We are seeking someone who is technically curious, organized, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of assigned design tasks. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and an interest in developing deeper expertise in pump station and conveyance design are important for success in this role. Key Responsibilities
- Pump Station & Conveyance Design
- Design water, wastewater, and stormwater pump stations (lift stations, booster stations, drainage stations)
- Perform hydraulic calculations and modeling, including system head curves and surge considerations
- Size and select pumps, valves, piping systems, and mechanical equipment
- Develop pump station layouts (wet wells, intakes, discharge systems)
- Engineering Analysis & Documentation
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design briefs, and feasibility studies
- Develop drawings and specifications for construction packages
- Support hydraulic modeling of transmission mains and conveyance networks
- Project Delivery
- Contribute to projects from concept through detailed design and construction
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and controls disciplines
- Support development of cost estimates, schedules, and design deliverables
- Construction & Field Support
- Review shop drawings and submittals
- Respond to RFIs and site issues
- Conduct site visits, condition assessments, and commissioning support
- Team & Client Collaboration
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
- Provide technical guidance to junior staff and designers
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering
- P.Eng. (or eligible in BC)
- 5–10 years of experience in water/wastewater infrastructure
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with hydraulic modelling tools such as AFT Fathom, InfoWater/InfoWorks, WaterGEMS/SewerGEMS or equivalent is required.
- Preparation of drawings, specs, and engineering calculations
- Understanding of applicable codes and standards
- Assets:
- Experience with large-diameter mains or force mains
- Familiarity with: - surge analysis or transient modeling
- CFD modelling of Water Infrastructure (e.g., ANSYS Fluent)
- Construction phase experience

Pay Range:- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
