Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a Project Commercial Manager to support complex programs and projects through financial management, contract compliance, change management, and commercial process governance. This role will serve as the internal project manager for assigned jobs, helping ensure projects are properly set up in Stantec’s ERP, financially maintained, contractually aligned, and the budget is managed in accordance with the Stantec Project Management Framework. The successful candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized professional with project financial and cost management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities. This position will be primarily internally facing, working closely with Program Managers, Project Accountants, Project Controls staff, subcontract management teams, finance, and leadership. The role may also include limited external coordination with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to better understand program requirements, support issue resolution, and improve commercial outcomes. The position may also provide oversight and guidance to a small team of project support staff. Your Key Responsibilities Project and Commercial Management
- Serve as the internal project manager for assigned projects, task orders, or program workstreams, ensuring alignment with the Stantec Project Management Framework and internal policies.
- Coordinate project setup, budget structures, financial administration, forecasting, invoicing support, and closeout activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Partner with Program Managers, Task Leads, and client-based Project Managers to support successful project budget initiation, cost management execution, financial monitoring, controlling, and closeout.
- Maintain awareness of project scope, schedule, budget, funding, contractual obligations, and commercial risks.
- Ensure project documentation and financial records are current and meet audit and compliance expectations.
Contract, Compliance, and Change Management
- Review contracts, task orders, amendments, and change orders to identify key commercial requirements, invoicing terms, authorization limits, obligations, and risks and support project teams in understanding applicable contract terms and obligations
- Monitor compliance with contractual requirements, approved scope, funding limits, and authorization thresholds, escalating concerns before work proceeds beyond authorized limits.
- Participate in the preparation, coordination, negotiation support, and administration of contracts, task orders, amendments, and change orders.
- Monitor project and task order funding, contract value, authorization status, burn rate, budget alignment, and change management needs.
- Track commercial issue status, responsible parties, due dates, and resolution plans to support accountability and transparency.
Financial Management and Forecasting
- Develop, maintain, and review project and task order forecasts, estimates at completion, estimates to complete, budget updates, and other required financial reporting.

- Monitor expenditures, revenue, margin, work in progress, accounts receivable, cash flow, contract value, funding, and financial trends against approved baselines.
- Support multi-year program budgeting and initiate timely corrective action when financial or commercial performance varies from plan.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Assign, prioritize, guide, and review the work of project support staff, as applicable.
- Build effective relationships across project, finance, contracts, controls, and operational teams, and communicate priorities, risks, and issues clearly.
- Identify opportunities to improve, standardize, and automate commercial, financial, invoicing, reporting, and documentation processes.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, data quality, and proactive issue resolution while following company health and safety policies.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong understanding of project management, budget and cost controls, commercial management, contract compliance, and financial oversight within a professional service, engineering, design, environmental, construction, or infrastructure environment.
- Demonstrated experience with project budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, change management, financial reporting, contract compliance, and project documentation.
- Ability to take financial ownership of assigned projects and identify, communicate, and resolve commercial, contractual, financial, and delivery risks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and quality review skills, with high attention to detail and follow-through.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work with minimal oversight, and communicate workload and risks effectively in a matrixed and virtual environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and virtual collaboration tools.
- Experience with SharePoint, Oracle, project financial systems, forecasting tools, scheduling tools, document control systems, or similar platforms preferred.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or directing project support staff preferred.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business, Project Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in project management, project budget and cost control, project financial management, commercial management, contract administration, budget management, or project support.
- Experience supporting large, complex, multidisciplinary programs or capital projects in the engineering, design, environmental, construction, infrastructure, water, or professional services industries preferred.
- Prior experience managing, mentoring, or directing staff preferred.

Pay Range:- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
