As an Engineering – Director Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is located in our Promontory, UT facility.
This position reports to the Space Sector Central Region Engineering Vice President and works in concert with the Propulsion Systems Business Unit (PSBU) Senior Leadership team. In addition to directing the chief engineering organization, this position is considered the PSBU Chief Engineer. As such, overarching responsibilities are to;
Lead and develop the team of chief engineers supporting PS programs.
Leads chief engineering in technical decision-making for the PS business unit.
Define strategic roadmaps and technical baselines for capture efforts.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead and develop the team of chief engineers supporting PS programs to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative engineering solutions that fully comply with customer requirements.
Drive a culture of technical excellence, accurate risk evaluation and communication, and ownership in driving long-term success for PS programs.
Provide independent evaluation of anomaly resolution and decisions with elevated risk.
Owns PS technical roadmaps and directs allocation of PS technical resources to minimize risk and maximize opportunities toward PSBU business objectives.
Work with Central Region Engineering leadership teammates to provide a coordinated approach to accomplishing CRE objectives.
Coordinate and lead PSBU technical participation in Space Sector NCTA and IRAD processes.
Support PSBU Senior Leadership team with broad technical expertise and provide down-and-in technical guidance to program-specific chief engineers.
Function as the Business Unit Engineering Lead (BEL) for Propulsion Systems. This requires regular and constant interactions with the Operating Unit (OU) directors and taking quick action to resolve engineering-related issues.
Chair the PS Flight Readiness Review Board and participate as a voting member of technical boards for program milestone reviews, Senior MRB, PS Common CCB, and proposal delegations.
Closely partner with the Launch and Exploration Division and Launch Systems Business Unit Chief Engineers.
Ensure coordination between programs on common technical issues and strategic initiatives.
Ensure that designs and hardware builds meet all internal and Customer requirements, especially across engineering discipline boundaries. Provide justification and adjudicate through proper boards any deviations or waivers to such requirements.
Actively participate in and guide proposal and RFI responses.
Perform other duties, as necessary, commensurate with the role of PSBU Chief Engineer.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 20 years of applicable experience – OR – Master’s degree in Engineering with 18 years of applicable experience – OR – PhD in Engineering with 14 years of applicable experience.
Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Security security clearance
Broad understanding of solid rocket motor design, performance, development, and production.
Minimum of 5 years of experience managing or leading technical teams.
Technical engineering or previous Chief Engineer experience.
Well-versed, skilled, and disciplined in system engineering processes.
Ability to travel 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in engineering.
Deep expertise in one or more technical areas of rocket science/engineering.
Familiarity with PS customers and methods of technical execution and review.
Experience in formal management of engineering teams.

Primary Level Salary Range: $209,000.00 - $313,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
