Department Overview

This role is part of the Avigilon Platform product management team, which is responsible for developing common, enterprise-grade software and hardware foundations, including universal web playback components and edge appliances for streaming, that power solutions across the Avigilon portfolio and extend into broader Motorola Solutions ecosystems.

Job Description

As the Sr. Product Manager, Video Services, you will serve as the lead individual contributor and domain expert responsible for driving the product strategy, system architecture, and developer adoption for Motorola Solutions’ common video services.

Your domain spans the end-to-end video ecosystem, including core media services, streaming backend infrastructure, web playback components, and multi-device delivery across browsers, appliances, and edge camera platforms. As a platform product manager, your internal customers are application product teams and developers across enterprise and public safety teams across Motorola Solutions. Your success depends on earning their trust and delivering scalable video infrastructure that teams actively choose to adopt and rely on.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Strategy & Backend Architecture: Own the vision, roadmap, and execution for common video services, including media routing, backend streaming, edge delivery, and playback components.

• Developer Adoption & Trust: Partner with internal product and engineering teams across enterprise and public safety consumption applications to drive adoption of unified video services. Measure success by how effectively product teams rely on, integrate, and advocate for your platform.

• System Trade-offs & Engineering Collaboration: Reason deeply about video delivery protocols, media paths, latency constraints, video quality, and failure modes. Partner closely with senior engineering leads and architects to evaluate tradeoffs and define robust technical requirements. 

• Cross-Device & Multi-Surface Delivery: Ensure consistent, reliable video streaming and playback across diverse client environments, edge appliances, cloud services, and camera hardware.

• Execution & Lifecycle Management: Define clear success metrics, write technical product specs and user stories, and guide agile development teams through complex platform releases.

Basic Requirements

• Experience: 7+ years of technical product management experience leading platform products, cloud services, media streaming, or developer-facing infrastructure.

• Technical Reasoning: You don't need to write code, but you must understand systems well enough to make sound architectural tradeoffs. Ability to reason about protocols, media paths, low latency, video quality, edge-to-cloud topologies, and failure modes. 

• Platform Mindset: Proven ability to build products where the primary customer is another developer or product team, with a track record of earning trust and driving platform adoption without relying on top-down mandates. 

• Leadership & Influence: Outstanding communication skills and the technical credibility required to earn the trust of strong principal engineers and architects. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior product management or technical experience with video streaming platforms or products (e.g., VMS systems, IP cameras, video conferencing).

• Familiarity with real-time streaming protocols and web media technologies (e.g., WebRTC, HLS, WebCodecs).

• Experience with hybrid cloud-edge architectures, video decoding frameworks, or low-latency video streaming optimization.

• Strong analytical skills to define performance benchmarks, measure streaming latency/quality, and track developer adoption metrics.

Target Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 CAD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
