Meet the Team
Information Technology is core to the health and growth of Millennium’s business. The firm’s active, multi-manager model demands flexible, scalable technology and advanced proprietary systems, including the development of next-generation analytical and trading capabilities. The Latency Critical Trading team delivers high-quality, low-latency trading capabilities for Millennium’s businesses through a world-class Linux platform and production support. The team brings together Linux, network, SRE, and software engineers focused on stable, high-performing server environments, continuous learning, and meaningful platform improvement.
What You'll Do
• Support and maintain the firm’s globally distributed, trading-oriented Linux stack for latency-critical environments.
• Partner with application developers and portfolio managers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical deliverables.
• Assist in the design and build of new ultra-low-latency trading capabilities.
• Monitor the performance, stability, and health of the latency-critical computing environment.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, including packet loss, high latency, instability, kernel bypass, routing and switching, multicast protocols, and precision timing systems.
• Identify risks, develop contingency plans, and communicate client needs and platform priorities to regional and global leadership.
• Automate operational tasks and contribute to improvements that strengthen platform reliability, performance, and supportability.
• Participate in occasional monthly on-call responsibilities and help maintain documentation and training materials for the team.
What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong understanding of Linux system internals, including kernel operations, memory management, sockets, and interrupts.
• Working knowledge of kernel bypass technologies such as Onload or VMA, including why they are used in low-latency environments.
• Solid understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, and IGMP, and how the Linux kernel handles them.
• Knowledge of FPGA accelerators and smart NICs, including their operation, maintenance, strengths, and limitations.
• Ability to automate manual and infrastructure processes using Python, Perl, or another high-performance interpreted language; Ansible experience or a strong desire to develop it.
• Some understanding of compiled programming languages such as C or C++ and their dependencies.
• Clear, professional communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for making Linux systems perform consistently at speed.
Millennium offers a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits. The estimated base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000, which is specific to New York and may change in the future. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
