Purpose
Assess, validate and define secure, DMZ-compliant methods to export OT/IoT data from air‑gapped/offline OT into the data lake for the digital twin and AI analytics.
Key responsibilities
Conduct sensor inventory and offline validation; capture full metadata without disrupting live control systems.
Define and test secure extraction workflows: edge gateway configs, buffering, uni-directional transfer (data diode), scheduled exports and file handoff procedures through the DMZ.
Specify and validate edge gateway hardware/software and protocol bridging (Modbus, OPC‑UA wrappers, MQTT, etc.) compatible with DMZ policies.
Validate timestamp integrity, sampling rhythm, units and completeness for delayed/batch transfers; design reconciliation and eventual-consistency checks.
Produce secure integration specifications, data schemas, acceptance criteria, and handover packets for the data‑lake ingestion team.
Troubleshoot field device connectivity and provide remediation plans that comply with OT change-control.
Coordinate with operations to schedule permitted windows and ensure HSE/permit‑to‑work compliance.
Train operations/maintenance on safe, repeatable DMZ handoff procedures.
Required qualifications
Degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical, Computer Engineering or similar.
5+ years’ experience in oil & gas instrumentation, SCADA/DCS, or process control with experience under DMZ/air‑gapped constraints.
Practical knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC‑UA, MQTT) and secure OT‑to‑IT transfer patterns (data diodes, DMZ, jump kits).
Experience coordinating with OT cybersecurity and network teams.
Preferred
Experience with edge gateways, buffering strategies, and offline validation tools (simulators/test rigs).
Certifications in ICS/OT cybersecurity or relevant standards.
KPIs
% of sensors mapped and validated for DMZ‑compliant transfer.
Data completeness/reconciliation error rates after batch transfers.
Time to implement a secure transfer workflow per sensor/system.
Working conditions & safety
Fieldwork in onshore facilities; strict adherence to HSE, permit‑to‑work, and OT change‑control procedures.
No ad‑hoc connections to OT; all transfers must use approved DMZ mechanisms and encrypted media as required.
