Job Title: Specialist Instrument & Controls Engineer – Offshore Water Injection Project
KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team is currently looking to fill a position of Specialist Instrument & Controls Engineer for an Offshore Project to be based in UAE ( Abu Dhabi) as soon as the administrative processes are completed, will then relocate to Spain Office and then return to Abu Dhabi .
Job Purpose
The Specialist Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and technical assurance of instrumentation, control systems, and automation solutions for an Offshore Water Injection Project. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of offshore facilities through compliance with project specifications, international standards, client requirements, and industry best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Engineering
- Develop and review instrumentation engineering deliverables for offshore water injection facilities.
- Prepare instrument specifications, datasheets, requisitions, and technical documentation.
- Review Instrument Index, I/O List, Hook-Up Drawings, Loop Diagrams, and Installation Details.
- Ensure instrumentation design complies with project, client, and international standards.
Control Systems Engineering
- Design and review control philosophies, cause & effect diagrams, and functional design specifications.
- Support development and integration of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, SCADA, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Review system architecture, network design, and control system interfaces.
- Support automation strategies to maximize operational efficiency and reliability.
Instrument Selection & Package Engineering
- Provide technical expertise for procurement and evaluation of:
- Pressure Instruments
- Flow Meters
- Level Instruments
- Temperature Instruments
- Analyzers and Sampling Systems
- Control Valves
- On-Off Valves
- HIPPS Components
- Fire & Gas Detection Systems
- Shutdown Systems
- Conduct technical bid evaluations and participate in vendor meetings.
Safety & Functional Safety
- Support HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, and Functional Safety assessments.
- Review and verify Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and SIL calculations.
- Ensure compliance with IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ISA, and client standards.
- Participate in risk reduction and process safety studies.
Offshore Water Injection Systems
- Support control and monitoring systems associated with:
- Water Injection Pumps
- Seawater Lift Pumps
- Deaeration Units
- Filtration Packages
- Chemical Injection Systems
- Produced Water Systems
- Utility and Process Packages
- Ensure reliable monitoring and control of water injection operations.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup.
- Review vendor documentation and resolve technical queries.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Integrated System Testing (IST).
- Support loop checking, troubleshooting, and performance testing activities.
Interface Management
- Interface with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Telecommunications, and Project teams.
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, vendors, and client representatives.
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical workshops.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline.
- Master’s Degree is an advantage.
- Functional Safety (TÜV), ISA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
Experience
- 15-18+ years of Instrumentation and Control Engineering experience within Oil & Gas, Offshore, EPC, or Energy projects.
- Minimum 5 years in a Specialist or Senior Instrument & Controls Engineering role.
- Proven experience delivering offshore projects, water injection facilities, FPSOs, offshore platforms, or major process facilities.
- Strong exposure to FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC execution, commissioning, and startup phases.
