Principal Cloud Solutions Architect - Applications & AI
KBR is looking for a Principal Cloud Solutions Architect - Applications & AI to serve as a senior technical leader responsible for defining enterprise architecture standards, cloud-native application strategies, artificial intelligence solutions, and integration patterns across KBR's global technology landscape. This role provides architectural leadership for custom applications, Azure platform services, enterprise integration, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365, and AI-enabled business solutions.
The Principal Cloud Solutions Architect - Applications & AI will work within a globally distributed Strategy and Architecture organization. This position will partner with stakeholders across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other global regions to guide application modernization, cloud adoption, AI enablement, and technology governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine a deep expertise in enterprise application architecture, Azure cloud services, AI platforms, and DevSecOps practices with a proven ability to influence technology strategy, establish standards, and mentor technical teams across a complex enterprise environment.
In September 2025, KBR announced that we are spinning our Mission Technology Solutions business into a separate public company. This role will ultimately be part of the new company. The Mission Technology Solutions business partners with governments and defense, intelligence, space, aviation, and critical infrastructure customers to deliver high-end engineering, science, technology, and mission support solutions.
**Ability to work a regular 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM IST schedule**
Key Responsibilities:
- Enterprise & Application Architecture
- Define and maintain enterprise application architecture standards, principles, reference architectures, and reusable design patterns
- Lead architecture design for custom applications, cloud-native solutions, integration initiatives, and modernization programs
- Provide architectural leadership for solutions leveraging Microsoft technologies, including .NET, .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET, Blazor, Web APIs, and modern application frameworks
- Establish architecture patterns for microservices, distributed systems, API-first architectures, event-driven solutions, and domain-driven design
- Evaluate application portfolios and recommend modernization strategies that improve scalability, security, maintainability, and operational efficiency
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, integration, supportability, and lifecycle management standards
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders on application architecture and technology decisions
- Azure PaaS & Cloud-Native Architecture
- Lead adoption of Azure PaaS and cloud-native technologies as preferred enterprise application hosting models
- Design solutions utilizing Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, API Management, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, Container Apps, Key Vault, Azure Front Door, and related Azure services
- Establish reusable architecture patterns that promote scalability, security, reliability, observability, operational excellence, and cost optimization
- Guide application teams in selecting appropriate Azure services, deployment models, and cloud-native design approaches
- Ensure solutions align with Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework principles
- AI Architecture & Intelligent Platforms
- Define enterprise AI architecture standards, governance models, reference architectures, and implementation frameworks
- Design and govern AI-enabled solutions utilizing Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Services, AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), intelligent search, vector databases, and enterprise knowledge platforms
- Guide integration of AI capabilities within custom applications, Power Platform solutions, and Microsoft 365 environments
- Ensure AI solutions align with responsible AI principles, security, privacy, compliance, data governance, and operational support requirements
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend enterprise adoption strategies
- Enterprise Integration & Platform Architecture
- Define enterprise integration strategies, standards, and reusable architecture patterns
- Design architectures leveraging APIs, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures, Microsoft Graph, and hybrid integration models
- Provide governance and architectural guidance for Power Platform, Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Teams, Dataverse, and related platforms
- Establish secure and scalable integration patterns across Azure services, SaaS applications, enterprise systems, and low-code platforms
- Guide teams on the appropriate use of low code versus custom development approaches
- Architecture Governance, Security & DevSecOps
- Lead architecture review boards, solution governance reviews, and technical design assessments
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, technology roadmaps, security requirements, and operational support models
- Define architecture standards supporting Secure SDLC, DevSecOps, software quality, and software supply chain governance
- Review security findings, software quality metrics, vulnerability assessments, and compliance controls
- Partner with development, cloud, and cybersecurity teams to integrate security, quality, and compliance requirements into delivery pipelines
- Ensure solutions align with organizational security standards and industry best practices
- Technology Strategy & Leadership
- Lead proof-of-concepts, technology evaluations, vendor assessments, and strategic recommendations
- Partner with technology vendors and platform providers to support enterprise solution adoption and modernization efforts
- Contribute to cloud, application, AI, integration, and enterprise technology roadmaps
- Support critical architecture decisions, major initiatives, and complex production escalations
- Mentor architects, engineers, and development teams
- Serve as a senior technical leader across globally distributed teams and initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required; equivalent experience may be considered
- 9 + years of overall Information Technology experience
- 7 + years of experience in Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, Cloud Architecture, AI Architecture, or Enterprise Architecture roles
- 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure architecture experience
- Proven ability in designing enterprise-scale custom applications and modernization initiatives
- Highly skilled in developing architecture standards, governance frameworks, and technology roadmaps
- Deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, including .NET, .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET, Blazor, Web APIs, and cloud-native application architectures
- Proficiency in designing Azure PaaS and cloud-native solutions
- Familiar with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Services, AI Agents, RAG architectures, and intelligent application platforms
- Skilled in designing or governing enterprise solutions utilizing Azure services, APIs, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 technologies
- Strong understanding of enterprise integration architecture, API management, and event-driven design patterns
- DevOps, DevSecOps, software quality governance, and software supply chain risk management experience
- Knowledge of secure application architecture, governance, compliance, and enterprise security principles
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proven expertise to influence technical strategy and architectural decisions across large organizations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to mentor architects, engineers, and development teams
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and executive audiences
- Experience working across globally distributed teams and business functions
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102)
- TOGAF Certification
- Ability to design and govern enterprise solutions utilizing Azure cloud-native services, integration platforms, container technologies, DevOps toolchains, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 technologies
- Proficiency with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, AI Agents, RAG architectures, intelligent search, vector databases, Copilot technologies, and enterprise AI governance
- SonarQube, Sonatype Nexus Lifecycle/IQ, GitHub Advanced Security, SAST, DAST, and secure CI/CD practices experience
- Knowledge of NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, and enterprise governance frameworks
- Exposure to AWS and Google Cloud Platform environments
