Your next role should amplify your impact and accelerate your growth. Join a collaborative, hands‑on team building UI architecture and reusable component platforms that power secure, intuitive Trade Finance experiences at scale.
As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Trade & Working Capital, you will set the technical direction for frontend architecture and be hands-on building reusable React/TypeScript components and patterns adopted across multiple squads. You’ll partner across Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver consistent UX, high-performance UIs, and reliable integrations with Java-based services. You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend architecture. Turning complex requirements into simple, compliant front-end systems that hold up in regulated environments. We value practical leadership, clear communication, and accountability for outcomes—while staying close to code and production.
Job responsibilities
- Own frontend architecture for customer-facing applications, including application structure, routing, state management, module boundaries, and integration patterns to enable scale, resiliency, and rapid delivery.
- Design, build, and maintain a reusable component platform/design system (React + TypeScript): core UI primitives, complex workflow components, accessibility standards, theming, documentation, and versioned release strategy.
- Stay hands-on in code: build high-impact components, reference implementations, and templates; drive adoption through pull requests, pairing, and technical reviews.
- Define and evolve shared UI patterns (forms, validation, tables/grids, document upload, approvals, error handling, notifications, entitlements-based rendering) to ensure consistency across customer journeys.
- Partner with backend teams to shape API contracts optimized for UI (latency expectations, pagination, error semantics, idempotency, versioning) and drive UI-friendly patterns (BFF where appropriate).
- Establish frontend performance engineering practices: bundle strategy, rendering efficiency, caching, and Core Web Vitals; ensure high performance under real-world workloads. Implement frontend observability and operability: client-side logging/metrics, correlation IDs, trace linkage, actionable dashboards, and runbooks for production support.
- Lead secure-by-design UI engineering: authN/authZ flows, secure session handling, PII masking, XSS/CSRF protections, dependency governance, and compliance guardrails. Coach engineers and raise standards in UI architecture, component quality, testing, and documentation, ensuring reusable assets are reliable and discoverable.
- Own delivery outcomes across multiple squads: roadmap alignment for the UI platform, release readiness, dependency management, and risk mitigation/escalation.
- Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for customer-facing applications; drive corrective/preventive actions that improve stability and user experience. Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation at scale.
- Apply GenAI/LLMs to enhance UI and operational workflows (e.g., guided task completion, intelligent assistance, search/summarization) with appropriate controls and governance.
- Architects and governs agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) to improve delivery speed, code quality, and operational outcomes at scale (e.g., AI-driven PR review assistance, test generation/maintenance, release readiness checks, incident triage and root-cause acceleration), while defining guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, and reuse across teams.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years of applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Strong hands-on experience building frontend architecture for large-scale web applications using React + TypeScript, including state management, component APIs, and modularization strategies.
- Proven experience building reusable component libraries/design systems (versioning, adoption strategy, documentation, accessibility) and driving usage across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to be hands-on: shipping production UI code, leading complex refactors/migrations, and unblocking teams through practical implementation.
- Experience with frontend testing strategy (unit/integration/E2E), CI/CD, and release safety mechanisms (feature flags, canaries/rollbacks).
- Strong understanding of secure development practices for customer-facing apps in regulated environments (PII handling, dependency risk, secure coding).
- Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to senior stakeholders across product, design, engineering, operations, and risk.
- Demonstrated experience designing and leading adoption of agentic AI-enabled development practices (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) across teams, including setting standards for human-in-the-loop validation, auditability/traceability of changes, and secure handling of sensitive data.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations in engineering workflows, including security/resiliency implications, data sensitivity, and risk-based governance; ability to influence senior technical leaders on safe scaling patterns and reuse.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
