As an SRE in IBM CIO Platform Engineering (CPE), you will maintain, support, and help to enhance multiple aspects of the Z networking environment. Some responsibilities: You will maintain, support and help to enhance the networking platform in a large Z system environment that supports IBM's internal applications.
You will use tools to monitor SAN infrastructure and keep it technically sound and updated. You'll have the opportunity to identify points of improvement in technical processes and propose new ways to do it through automation, help our customer to resolve their pain points and, through co-creation, define solutions that allow improving the efficiency of their operations. Strong expertise with IBM Communications Server on z/OS and z/VM, including VTAM, SNA/APPN/HPR, and TCP/IP. Hands-on experience troubleshooting PU/LU sessions, CP/EN/NN nodes, and multi-hop network paths. Proven experience resolving large-scale enterprise connectivity incidents involving 50–300+ LPAR environments. Deep familiarity with HiperSockets, OSA-Express adapters, XCF signaling, virtual switches, and z/VM guest networking. Advanced diagnostic skills using VTAM internal traces, packet traces, Netstat, D NET, D TCPIP, IPCS, and system logs. Solid understanding of how SAN, virtualization layers, and distributed networks interact with mainframe connectivity. Demonstrated success leading root-cause analysis and producing clear, structured Action Taken/Action Plan documentation. Experience driving configuration standardization, architecture alignment, or environment modernization initiatives. IT Service Management: Experience with IT service management principles and practices, ensuring seamless operation and minimal downtime of I/T systems. AI Proficiency: Experience with Prompt Engineering and use of LLMs to derive AI-first solutions to operational problems. Developing AI Agents is a plus.
