About the Role We're looking for an early-career Software Engineer (2+ years of experience) who enjoys solving real engineering problems through modern full-stack development. You'll work closely with technical leads and product stakeholders to design, build, and ship internal developer tools that are used across the engineering organization.This role is ideal for someone who is self-driven, curious, and excited about using AI throughout the software development lifecycle—from requirements analysis and implementation to testing, documentation, and maintenance. What You'll Do ● Build and enhance internal developer platform services that improve software delivery, deployment automation, and developer experience across the organization. ● Develop cloud-native applications and services running primarily on AWS, with opportunities to work across GCP and Azure. ● Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and engineering workflows that improve development velocity and operational reliability. ● Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform and contribute to cloud infrastructure automation. ● Develop and operate containerized applications deployed on Kubernetes. ● Contribute to AI-powered developer productivity initiatives, including workflow automation and integrations with engineering systems . ● Participate in technical design discussions, contribute to design documents, and collaborate with senior engineers during implementation. ● Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code while participating in code reviews and engineering best practices. ● Participate in on-call rotations, operational support, and incident response while learning production ownership. ● Continuously improve engineering processes through automation and collaboration. Education & Experience — Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)2+ years of professional software engineering experience. ● Engineering Fundamentals — Strong programming skills in at least one backend language (Java, Go, or Python) and one frontend technology (JavaScript/TypeScript with React or a similar modern framework), with the ability to quickly learn the primary technologies used by the team.Ability to deliver well-defined tasks with guidance while following engineering best practices. ● Learning & Technical Growth — Eagerness to learn Confluent's engineering practices, DevProd systems, SDLC processes, and design documentation (e.g., One Pagers,Runbooks).Actively seeks feedback and continuously improves technical skills.Develops expertise in assigned platform components over time. ● Cloud & Platform Engineering — Experience with AWS; exposure to GCP or Azure is a plus.Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar). ● Collaboration & Communication — Communicates effectively through stand-ups, Slack, documentation, and code reviews.Collaborates well with teammates and delivers assigned work on time. ● AI-Assisted Development — Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude responsibly. ● Basic understanding of Generative AI concepts, LLMs, AI agents, MCP (Model Context Protocol), or agentic workflows. ● Experience building internal developer tools or platform engineering solutions. ● Experience with GitOps practices.
