We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our department as Assistant Portfolio Manager, Index Investments.
Principal Responsibilities
- Support the management of index-tracking and systematic portfolios across ETPs, index funds and institutional mandates, ensuring outcomes aligned with stated benchmarks and/or investment objectives.
- Own/support day-to-day portfolio management activities including portfolio construction support, rebalancing, cash management and implementation of index events.
- Help design and maintain robust implementation approaches (full replication, representative sampling or optimization where appropriate) to minimize tracking error/difference, considering liquidity, transaction costs, taxes and operational constraints.
- Monitor portfolio risk, exposures and guideline compliance using relevant risk models and portfolio analytics; investigate drivers of tracking outcomes and support remediation actions.
- Partner with Dealing Team to plan and execute rebalances efficiently (market impact, best execution, liquidity management) and provide clear trade instructions and rationale.
- Manage/support exceptions and breaches: identify issues early, document decisions, escalate appropriately, and ensure timely resolution in line with governance and regulatory expectations.
- Support ETP operations where applicable, including coordination on creations & redemptions, basket composition and liquidity considerations with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
- Conduct research and feasibility assessments for new index and systematic products (index selection, replication method, liquidity, costs, operational readiness and risk considerations).
- Support client communication and servicing deliverables, including performance review materials, index event explanations and portfolio commentary.
- Work closely with Investment Specialists, Sales, Product, Risk, Operations and Technology teams to support asset growth, client servicing and automation/process improvement.
- Maintain high standards of conduct, controls and documentation; support internal/external audits and adhere to all applicable compliance and monitoring procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or above) in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering or related discipline; CFA preferred (or progress towards CFA).
- Experience in index portfolio management / portfolio implementation / asset management / index research / fund administration within a reputable financial institution. (Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for an Analyst position.)
- Good knowledge of index methodologies and index event implementation (rebalancing mechanics, corporate actions).
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; advanced Excel required; Python/R/VBA/SQL and Bloomberg/risk systems experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of investment compliance, portfolio guidelines and operating within regulated frameworks; able to manage exceptions/escalations appropriately.
- Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across Trading, Risk, Operations, Product and Sales.
- High attention to detail, resilience during time-critical index events; able to prioritize and deliver under pressure.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).
