The opportunity
For our research center in Kraków, Poland we are looking for a Researcher with expertise in power grid stability modeling for the development of the future power grids applications. You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.
How you’ll make an impact
Your responsibilities are to propose, contribute to and lead research and development projects creating mathematical models and numerical simulations to analyze grid reliability and stability modeling for power systems with a high percentage of distributed, variable renewable generators.
Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers through expertise in numerical simulations and mathematical modeling
Propose and work on ideas and concepts of new approaches to creating, running and exploiting numerical simulations with business impact, turning them into prototypes and verify them
Develop concepts for combining mathematical/physical models of distribution power systems with new and emerging technologies such as mathematical optimization, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Take a multidisciplinary approach to numerical simulation, working with different simulation software tools and implementing novel simulation algorithms yourself
Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise
Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors
Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports
Requirements
Strong academic qualification with an internationally recognized degree at doctorate level in Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation or any related field.
Experience in developing mathematical models of electric power systems
Experience with designing and running numerical simulation algorithms for power systems and analyzing results
Practical knowledge of modeling and numerical simulation software e.g. PSCAD, PowerFactory, ATP, MATLAB/Simulink or similar
Programming experience beyond Python (e.g. C#, C++, Java,Rust,…)
Experience that demonstrates your team-oriented, innovative, and strategic working styles
Demonstrated a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with the ability to grow beyond the current scope of responsibilities.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
In addition, the following skills would be beneficial for the role:
Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence technologies, in conjunction with numerical simulations
Experience using High Performance Computing and algorithmic performance optimization for running large scale simulations
Experience in usage of mathematical models of electric power systems to solve control and/or optimization problems
Software engineering expertise beyond programming
