The Opportunity
Are you passionate about using advanced simulation technologies to shape the future of energy solutions? Hitachi Energy is looking for a R&D Electrical Engineer to join our global Multi-physics Simulation Team within the Transformers business.
In this exciting role, you will help drive the development of next-generation dry-type and liquid-filled distribution and traction transformers through cutting-edge circuit-level, electromagnetic, and multi-physics simulations. Working alongside a diverse network of R&D, engineering, testing, and product development professionals, you will play a key role in accelerating innovation and enabling smarter, more efficient product development.
This position offers the opportunity to influence product performance from the earliest design stages by leveraging simulation-driven methodologies to predict outcomes, reduce development risks, and support a shift-left approach to engineering. You will contribute to the development of new technologies, advanced modeling techniques, and automated simulation workflows that help bring reliable, high-performing transformer solutions to customers worldwide.
If you thrive in a collaborative international environment, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and are motivated by innovation, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of electrification.
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Perform circuit-level, electromagnetic, and multi-physics simulations for dry-type and liquid-filled distribution and traction transformers.
Analyze transformer performance, including losses, impedance, leakage fields, transient behavior, inductances, and short-circuit forces.
Support simulation-driven product development strategies that enable early design validation and prediction of factory test results.
Develop and maintain automated simulation workflows and engineering tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Advance innovative multi-physics methodologies by integrating electrical, structural, thermomechanical, and acoustic simulations.
Contribute to feasibility studies, technology assessments, and the development of new products and technical concepts.
Support prototype validation and testing activities to verify simulation models and enhance product performance.
Share technical expertise through design guidelines, internal training, and close collaboration with engineering and design teams.
Your Background
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
Professional experience in electrical engineering; experience related to transformer design is highly valued.
Strong knowledge of circuit theory, electromagnetics, and transformer physics.
Experience with electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL Multiphysics, Altair Flux, FEMM, or similar platforms.
Knowledge of simulation and programming tools such as LTspice, PSpice, PowerFactory, ETAP, Python, MATLAB, or C#.
Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global environment and willingness to travel as needed.
