Union Square Kids is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, and resourceful Editor to join our editorial team. Reporting to the Senior Editor, licensed publishing, the position collaborates with all members of the department in the development of licensed books for existing and new publishing programs.
The Editor works closely with Design, Managing Editorial, Production, Sales, Publicity and Marketing teams at every step in the publishing process. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing, hands-on department while working with a dynamic creative team to deliver innovative titles for leading brands in children’s publishing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead edit and assist edit titles with senior editor.
· Develop branded formats including board books, picture books, tie-ins, 8 x 8s, beginning readers, and color and activity titles for the Union Square Kids’ licensed book program.
· Assist senior editor and editorial director with writer contracts and payment tracking, Title Management upkeep, fact sheets, P&Ls, estimate requests, and internal project tracking.
· Work with senior editor and editorial director to maintain day-to-day licensor relationships including approval routing, brand compliance oversight, new title pitches, and new license acquisitions.
· Work closely with Design to creatively use exiting brand and style guides assets as well as developing new art assets on a title-by-title basis.
· Write and co-write manuscripts for select titles.
· Insure successful and timely publication of all responsible titles.
· Present titles at sales conferences and account-specific presentations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Proven experience working with licensed book properties.
· Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs.
· Strong interpersonal and organization skills are essential.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience required.
· Minimum 4 years of editorial experience in children’s book publishing.

This role is based in our New York office. Employees are expected to work on-site three days per week in accordance with our hybrid work model. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office.
The compensation for this position is $65,000–$70,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and—talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
