Job Description Summary
The electrical grid is changing fast — and the engineers who plan high-voltage infrastructure are at the center of that change. As a Lead Primary Design Engineer at GE Vernova, you will take ownership of complex substation design projects across the full voltage spectrum (110kV–380kV), working within international teams to deliver infrastructure that keeps power flowing across On- & Offshore, Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) & Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) plants, and renewable energy installations. Your work directly supports the energy transition and the long-term security of supply for grid operators, energy suppliers, and industrial customers.
This is a role for someone who sees technical complexity as an opportunity to build something that lasts.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the independent development of primary technology solutions for high-voltage projects (110kV–380kV), including floor plans, plant layouts, sections, site plans, construction specifications, mechanical calculations, and remodeling concepts.
- Own the coordination of constructive interfaces across project workstreams, ensuring alignment between technical design and project delivery requirements.
- Produce and maintain project documentation using AutoCAD, Primtech, and/or Revit (2D/3D), applying Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards where applicable.
- Gather and validate required technical plant data and configurations, facilitating interface clarification in coordination meetings with project staff, customers, and suppliers.
- Communicate clearly within the project team and to management regarding deviations in quality, cost, schedule, and project goals.
- Contribute as a lead voice in cross-functional project teams, taking responsibility for defined sub-projects from inception through delivery.
Qualifications
Required
- A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Energy Technology, is nice to have — we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
- Significant experience in primary technical planning, project management, and implementation of projects in the high-voltage and extra-high voltage range (110kV–380kV).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Primtech, and/or Revit for 2D/3D design and documentation.
- Fluent English, with the ability to communicate clearly across international project teams and with external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical approach and the ability to develop structured, practical solutions to complex technical challenges.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of BIM methodologies and their application in substation design projects.
- Familiarity with MS Office and Windows in a project engineering environment.
- Experience coordinating across multi-disciplinary or international project teams.
- The strongest candidates will bring a track record of leading technical sub-projects in the high-voltage sector, combined with the communication skills to align teams, customers, and suppliers around a shared technical approach.
