Job Description Summary
GE’s Power Conversion and Storage business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organizations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonization, including through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
This is an opportunity to work as part of cross-functional team to deliver product designs that meet customer and project requirements in close conjunction with CAD and Mechanical Engineers and collaborate with Customers and Project Management, Sourcing and Procurement, Manufacturing and Quality teams.
Job Description
The Role
Rotating electrical machines are at the heart of energy transition — and the insulation systems inside them are what make reliable, high-performance operation possible. As Lead Insulation Engineer, you will own the design, specification, and technical integrity of insulation systems across GE Vernova's portfolio of motors and generators. Your work will directly shape product quality, manufacturing outcomes, and long-term field performance.
This is a senior individual contributor role with broad cross-functional reach — you will work closely with CAD and Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and customers to solve complex technical challenges across the full product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and specification of insulation systems for rotating electrical machines, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, customer requirements, and internal engineering specifications.
- Provide technical guidance to Sourcing and Procurement on material selection, supplier qualification, and procurement requirements for insulation systems.
- Support Manufacturing teams with process implementation, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives related to insulation.
- Define and lead insulation test and validation activities to verify performance and compliance throughout the product development cycle.
- Investigate insulation-related failures, non-conformances, and field issues — identify root causes and drive effective corrective actions across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing functions.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for a technically rigorous engineer with deep expertise in insulation systems for rotating machines, who is equally comfortable working independently on complex design challenges and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Required
- Strong knowledge of insulation systems, materials, and processes used in rotating electrical machines.
- Proven experience working across engineering, manufacturing, test, and supply chain functions in a relevant technical environment.
- Ability to analyse technical issues and develop practical, reliable solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
- Sound knowledge of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards relevant to insulation design for coils and rotating machines.
- Familiarity with type and routine testing of insulation on components.
- Experience with Teamcenter, SAP (Systems, Applications & Products), or equivalent PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software.
- SC (Security Check) clearance, currently held or previously obtained.
Education
A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements in insulation engineering for rotating machines.
