Position Summary
The Building Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of building systems and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This position requires a broad working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building utility systems. The mechanic performs preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and company requirements. Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with quarterly weekend coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, air handling units, pumps, motors, valves, cooling systems, and associated controls.
• Maintain and repair plumbing, steam, condensate, compressed air, chilled water, and heating systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems including lighting, receptacles, motors, motor controls, and low-voltage systems.
• Perform mechanical repairs on pumps, bearings, gearboxes, belts, couplings, and rotating equipment.
• Utilize work orders and CMMS systems to document maintenance activities and equipment history.
• Perform inspections and operational checks of facility systems and equipment.
• Support facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and shutdown activities.
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls and equipment failures.
• Perform basic carpentry, painting, ceiling repair, door hardware repair, and general building maintenance as needed.
• Maintain clean work areas, shops, and mechanical spaces.
• Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and facility personnel.
• Adhere to all safety requirements including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, electrical safety, and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum three (3) years of industrial or facilities maintenance experience.
• Experience working with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Basic computer skills and experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
• Technical degree, apprenticeship, or vocational training in maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical trades.
• RCTC’s Facility and Service Technology (FAST) program, or other relevant trade certifications.
• Experience maintaining critical utility support systems.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized control systems.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of:
o HVAC systems

• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, and testing equipment.
