The opportunity
Transition Management refers to the structured process of moving business operations, services, or processes from one environment to another—such as from a client or legacy system to a new service provider, delivery centre, or operating model—while ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
Key Elements of Transition Management
- Planning: Creating detailed transition plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies.
- Knowledge Transfer: Ensuring all critical knowledge, documentation, and processes are transferred effectively.
- Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Managing communication and expectations across all involved parties.
- Operational Readiness: Ensuring systems, teams, and processes are ready for go-live.
- Stabilization: Monitoring performance post-transition and resolving issues to achieve steady-state operations.
- In essence, it’s about seamlessly migrating processes and responsibilities while maintaining service quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.
Your key responsibilities
- Transition Planning & Execution
- Own transition lifecycle for applications/services (from design to production handover)
- Define transition plans, timelines, entry/exit criteria, and deliverables
- Ensure readiness across:
- Infrastructure, hosting, and environments
- Application deployments, configuration, and integrations
- Support model (L1/L2/L3 readiness)
- Operational Readiness & Validation
- Validate non-functional readiness:
- Performance, failover, backup/recovery, monitoring
- Security, compliance, supportability, maintainability
- Ensure completion of transition checklists, runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge transfer
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as central point between:
- Project/Delivery teams
- Operations (Global Ops / Service Management)
- Infrastructure and platform teams
- Coordinate defect resolution, risk closure, and readiness gaps
- Governance & Control
- Lead Go/No-Go decisions and permit-to-operate discussions
- Govern:
- Warranty/Early Life Support (ELS)
- SLA/OLA readiness
- Transition risk logs and issue tracking
- Reporting & Metrics
- Track transition progress, readiness scorecards, and risks
- Produce dashboards and leadership reports
Skills and attributes for success
- 8–12 years’ experience in Transition / Service Management / Delivery
- Strong knowledge of ITIL Service Transition processes
- Experience managing enterprise-scale application transitions
- Good understanding of testing, infrastructure, and application lifecycle
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills
- Experience with RTPA / Operational Readiness frameworks
- Solid presentation skills, and an ability to influence an audience of technical teams
- Possess an innovative mindset, open to sharing new ideas and work comfortably within global teams
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools and project management software.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Prior experience with Transition and or Project Management with knowledge around IT industry and ITIL concepts
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, IT, Operations Management, or related field.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- PMP or PRINCE2 certification preferred
- ITIL v3 or v4 Foundation training, or higher level of ITIL Certification.
- Exposure to global delivery models and cross-border transitions.
- Experience in managing large-scale transitions with multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of Agile methodology.
