EY UK&I’s Energy Transition team services clients across the energy industry, specifically organizations and organizations across the power & utilities value chain.  We are contracted by our clients to deliver digitization, modernization, and decarbonization pieces of work, and serve as transformation solution partners to key energy organizations in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland.  We also support power & utility clients in delivering BAU initiatives related to grid planning, operations, and markets.  Our offerings span: market and technology design, engineering, technology implementation, data & analytics, strategy, policy, and customer engagement activities in spaces such as: generation, transmission & distribution, operations, markets, retail, and regulatory reporting.

We are currently growing the team.  In addition to hiring for specific roles, we are looking for energy professionals with experience in any and all parts of the power & utility value chain.  Specifically, we are looking for subject matter resources ready to transition their expertise to consult for key energy transition clients.  If you are a candidate with expertise and experience in a subset of those listed within this posting, please consider applying for this position.  Applicants will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and considered for various roles and levels of entry.

 

Your key responsibilities

We are looking for candidates who have experience working with energy and utility companies, across the value chain in technical, strategic, or technology roles. Focus areas we are looking to hire for include: Strategy & business development; Program management; Business architecture, planning, and implementation; Investment planning and economic valuation; and Energy market design. 

Ideal applicants will have:

• Strong analytical mindset with ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement abilities, with experience managing multiple priorities in dynamic environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence decision-making at the executive level
• Passion for the energy sector, with a strong interest in utility transformation and emerging technologies
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the rapidly evolving energy landscape. 

 

Skills and attributes for success

 

To qualify for the role, you must have expertise and experience in the following areas:

•    Market & Trading Expertise
o    Demonstrable experience or strong understanding of ISEM trading activities, including DAM, IDM, BM, and Capacity Market participation.
o    Understanding of bidding strategies, trading optimisation, and commercial risk management in electricity markets.

•    Market Design & Reform Knowledge
o    Experience or exposure to market design, rule changes, and consultation processes within ISEM or European markets.
o    Familiarity with upcoming market reforms, including evolving electricity market structures, flexibility markets, and price signal changes.

•    Regulatory Understanding
o    Broad knowledge of energy market regulations, including SEMO rules, REMIT, and EU energy policy frameworks (e.g., Clean Energy Package).
o    Experience supporting or interpreting regulatory submissions, consultations, or compliance requirements.

•    System Services & Flexibility
o    Understanding of current and future system service frameworks, including ancillary services, grid stability, and flexibility markets.
o    Awareness of how renewables, storage, and demand-side response interact with system services and market signals.

•    Analytical & Consulting Skills
o    Strong analytical capability, with experience in market modelling, forecasting, or data analysis.
o    Ability to translate complex market and regulatory concepts into clear, actionable insights for clients.
o    Experience delivering client-facing advisory or consulting work is highly desirable but if other criteria met not essential
