Job Summary
The EHS Specialist will be the primary on-site guardian for health, safety, and environmental compliance during the construction of a large-scale data center. You will ensure that all construction activities—from civil works to MEP fit-out—adhere strictly to local regulations, corporate EHS standards, and OSHA and ISO guidelines. Your goal is to achieve a zero-incident workplace.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Safety Management
- Implement and enforce the project-specific EHS plan and behavioral safety programs.
- Conduct daily site walkthroughs and safety audits, focusing on high-risk activities: crane lifts, working at heights, excavation, hot work (welding), and scaffolding.
- Lead the permitting process for high-hazard tasks (Confined Space Entry, Hot Work Permits, LOTO/energization).
- Monitor subcontractor compliance; stop work immediately if unsafe conditions are observed.
- Site inspection and audit.
2. Incident Management & Investigation
- Manage the incident reporting system (near-misses, first aid, recordables).
- Conduct thorough root-cause investigations for any safety incidents.
- Track corrective actions to closure and ensure lessons learned are shared across the project team.
3. Training & Induction
- Develop and deliver site-specific safety orientations for all new personnel (including GC, MEP, and security staff).
- Facilitate toolbox talks (TBT) on critical topics such as arc flash prevention, fall protection, and heat stress management.
- Ensure all workers possess valid qualifications (e.g., WAH certification, forklift licenses).
4. Environmental Compliance
- Monitor environmental controls related to erosion, sediment control, and stormwater management (SWPPP).
- Oversee waste management protocols, ensuring proper segregation and disposal of hazardous materials (oil, batteries, chemicals).
- Ensure compliance with noise and dust control measures to minimize community impact.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Vector Management Control Program to mitigate the risk of vector-borne diseases.
5. Reporting & Meetings
- Prepare monthly EHS statistics (TRIR, DART) and present them to senior leadership.
- Chair weekly EHS coordination meetings with General Contractors and key MEP subcontractors.
- Liaise with local regulatory authorities (MOM, OSHA, HSE) during inspections.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience.
- Proven experience in large-scale construction. Experience in Data Centers, Oil & Gas, or Semiconductor Fab is highly preferred over standard commercial building experience.
- Experience managing EHS during high-voltage electrical installations (33kV/132kV switchyards) is a strong plus.
- Bachelor’s or diploma’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001 (Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environment).
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified instructor level is a plus.
