Cadence Design Systems Inc. is looking for a motivated Firmware and Diagnostics Engineer to work with us in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Cadence is de-facto leader in Semiconductor verification, implementation, Design and Verification IP, analog simulation, timing closure. Palladium is industry leading Emulation platform based on our proprietary hardware. Extensive runtime features for optimal use of Palladium boards, debugging hardware by trigger, dynamic waveform dump, and full vision wave dump are unique in emulation market. Conceptually Palladium is a supercomputer using up to multi thousands of processors to emulate hardware designs. This platform is used for debugging complex and large hardware designs and system on a chip.
Job Description:
- Develop, validate, and support firmware and diagnostic software for complex hardware systems.
- Contribute to hardware bring-up, system validation, manufacturing and field diagnostics, and issue triage.
- Deliver well-defined technical tasks, debug issues using structured evidence, and collaborate effectively with firmware, hardware, product engineering, validation, and field support teams.
Requirements:
- Complete Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
- Typically 1 to 3 years of experience in embedded firmware, diagnostics, hardware validation, board bring-up, or system-level debug.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and working knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as Python, Tcl, Bash, or Perl.
- Understanding of embedded systems concepts, firmware interfaces, hardware registers, boot flows, device drivers, and low-level debug methods.
- Experience using debug tools such as serial console, JTAG, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, lab power equipment, or hardware telemetry logs.
- Ability to read and interpret hardware specifications, schematics, interface documents, diagnostic procedures, and test plans.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to organize facts, evidence, assumptions, and hypotheses during debug.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting technical findings and collaborating across engineering teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Portuguese.
Nice to have:
- Experience with FPGA-based prototyping systems, hardware emulation platforms, high-speed interconnect, board management firmware, or hardware diagnostic frameworks.
- Familiarity with diagnostics for Ethernet/IP reachability, blade-to-blade connectivity, cable discovery, voltage/current/temperature telemetry, clock synchronization, memory tests, and peripheral validation.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows, automated regression testing, build systems, and release qualification for firmware or diagnostic software.
- Working knowledge of common hardware failure modes, connectivity failure, cable integrity issues, timing or frequency sensitivity, thermal anomalies, and component-level failures.
- Experience working with geographically distributed engineering, validation, product engineering, field service, or customer-facing support teams.
