Description Burns & McDonnell’s Power Global Practice is seeking to hire experienced mechanical engineers to our Nuclear team focusing on both operating Nuclear Power Plants and new nuclear power projects, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), microreactors and Advanced Reactors. Our Nuclear team has domestic and international experience providing consulting, design, analysis, and pre-construction planning services for operating nuclear power plants, nuclear refurbishments, as well as new SMRs and advanced reactors. We deliver solutions for these and other challenging projects every day.
As a mechanical engineer, you will serve as part of our design team with the ability to work on a full range of projects in engineering, procurement, and construction management related to the design, operation, maintenance, modification, and licensing of nuclear generating stations.
Responsibilities
- Performs mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modifies and reviews production drawings for a variety of power projects.
- Designs mechanical systems and selects components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Prepare mechanical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
- Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
- Researches and compiles project-related data as required by the project managers.
- Quality reviews and updates production drawings for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
- Quality reviews the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of mechanical systems.
- Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power generating facilities.
- Communicates with other disciplines (electrical, structural, civil) engineers for efficient project coordination.
- Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- May also have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
- 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
- Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.
- Ability to be authorized for unescorted access at a U.S. nuclear power generating facility.
- Experience with nuclear plant mechanical design, standard design process, plant modification packages, configuration management, and ASME NQA-1 (safety-related) requirements.
- Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong computer skills include programs such as AutoCAD, 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, or similar platforms.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Compensation$100,000.00-165,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
